Forget hot cross buns, Lions Christmas Cakes and Puddings are the seasonal treats Australians are craving

Lions Australia 2 mins read

It’s that time of the year again! Australia’s favourite Christmas cakes and puddings are back, just in time for the lead-up to Christmas.

Perfected over the years, the traditional Lions Australia Christmas Cake recipe is packed with high-quality ingredients and 50% fruit, but there’s one magic ingredient in these cakes and puddings that set them apart from the rest.

The Lions Christmas Cakes and Puddings make a difference.

All the funds received from purchases of the cakes and puddings are redirected to Lions Clubs and their initiatives Australia-wide, from the city to the regions.

The past several years have been extremely tough for regional communities, with a tumultuous global pandemic and devastating natural disasters.

As most of the country heads into bushfire season again, proceeds from Lions Christmas Cakes and Puddings are vital to funding emergency and disaster relief and assisting locals with recovering from bushfires.

On top of disaster assistance, Lions Clubs run various community service projects and initiatives, ranging from medical research, aid to locals with disability, youth programs and environmental work.

Being the organisation’s biggest fundraising source, sales from Lions Christmas and Puddings are substantial, and so too is their impact, with over $70 million diverted to local community programs and projects since 1965.

“Over the past 60 years, we’ve come a long way from selling our first pound cake. Today, our Lions Christmas Cakes and Puddings remain proudly Australian-made, and their impact on communities nationwide is immeasurable,” said Lions Australia CEO Rob Oerlemans.

“Funds from Lions Christmas Cakes and Puddings are vital in ensuring Lions Clubs can continue providing disaster relief and supporting a range of initiatives, like childhood-cancer research, that are literal lifelines to locals.”

The Lions Christmas Cake recipe is proudly Lions Australia—owned and made in Victoria by Traditional Foods. This year, new gluten-free versions are also being produced and sold.
