Thursday, 5 December 2024

The Rapid Relief Team is celebrating its volunteers on International Volunteer Day after an incredible year where more than 80,000 hours were donated globally in service of others.

RRT Global Managing Director Ron Arkcoll thanked RRT volunteers who have contributed to the spirit of volunteerism all year round in supporting frontline workers and communities across the globe.

“I can’t thank our volunteers, right across the world, enough. They’ve donated considerable time and effort in service of others and it’s important we recognise their good work on a day like today,” Ron said.

“As members of the Plymouth Brethren Christian Church we’re fortunate to be able to give back to our communities in this way. We believe in care and compassion which is what the Rapid Relief Team is all about.

“It’s been a huge year for our volunteers who have helped out in a range of different circumstances, whether it’s supporting emergency services during bush fires or floods, organising food boxes for those in the community in great need or simply serving up a burger at a local community event.

“Most recently in Australia we have organised the delivery of livestock feed to drought-affected farmers in South Australia and supported firefighters in WA and Victoria.

“No matter the cause, RRT volunteers are happy to help, and I know it gives each and every member a great deal of satisfaction knowing they’ve made even the smallest of differences.

“International Volunteer Day is an important day to recognise the efforts people go to help others. We are proud to be a part of the spirit of giving back and I look forward to all the opportunities the next 12 months will bring.

RRT was established by members of the Plymouth Brethren Christian Church more than a decade ago initially to support emergency services.

In the time since it has expanded to support a range of charitable initiatives including by providing donations and other resources and hosting community events.
