Nuclear Free Collective - Friends of the Earth Melbourne < 1 mins read

WHERE: 440 Collins Street, MELBOURNE
WHEN: 8-9AM Wednesday 4 December
WHAT: Community leaders, unions and grassroots organisations will gather outside the Parliamentary Inquiry into Nuclear Power Generation in Australia to make clear that Victoria does not need or want nuclear reactors. We will have banners, props and gas masks to make sure we are seen and heard. Our shared energy future is renewable, not radioactive!

Speakers will include:

Dave Sweeney, National Policy Advisor, Australia Conservation Foundation
Tilman Ruff, International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons
Danae Bosler from Victorian Trades Hall Council,
Lynn Frankes and Leigh Naunton, Lighter Footprints

Sanne de Swart, coordinator of the Nuclear Free Campaign with Friends of the Earth Melbourne said:

"Nuclear power is by far the most dangerous and expensive 'solution' to climate change. In truth, it is no solution at all. Shadow Energy Minister Ted O'Brien is the ultimate triple threat of energy politics: his nuclear plan will increase power bills, increase taxes and increase climate pollution. His refusal to release any nuclear costings ahead of the current federal inquiry strongly suggests that Mr. O'Brien knows that his nuclear plan will worsen the cost-of-living crisis by increasing power bills and increasing taxes."

EPA Executive Director Regulatory Operations Steve Beaman said the supply of falsified documentation is unacceptable. “Our investigation into…
