MEDIA ALERT: WA MPs and electoral candidates to debate key health issues

Key WA MPs and electoral candidates will gather in Floreat on Thursday, 5 December to debate the most pressing public health issues in Western Australia ahead of the March election. 

 

The Public Health Association of Australia (PHAA) WA Pre-Election Forum will feature Minister for Health and Mental Health, The Hon Amber-Jade Sanderson MLAShadow Minister for Health & Mental Health; Leader of the WA Liberal Party The Hon Libby Mettam MLA and The Hon Dr Brad Pettitt MLC, Greens (WA).

 

The event will also coincide with the release of the Public Health Association of Australia WA Branch’s election platform, outlining the key commitments WA public health experts are seeking to keep West Australians healthy and well. 

 

From the impact of alcohol on family violence, through to prevention funding, climate change, junk food marketing, the minimum age of criminal responsibility, and gambling, a range of key public health issues will be up for debate.   

  

Moderator Adjunct Professor Terry Slevin, CEO of Public Health Association of Australia, will challenge the candidates on their policies and invite questions from attendees. 

 

The event will be co-hosted by Injury Matters, Public Health Advocacy Institute, and the Australian Health Promotion Association. 

 

Media are invited to attend and cover the debate in person or online. PHAA spokespeople will also be available for interview after the debate to reflect on the issues raised and commitments made.

People with high blood pressure who also lack sleep may be at increased risk of reduced cognitive performance and greater brain injury, Monash University research has found. RACGP welcomes Victorian Parliament passing tax bill with amendments to protect bulk billing

The Royal Australian College of GPs (RACGP) has welcomed the Parliament of Victoria passing omnibus tax legislation with amendments to protect bulk billing for Victorians. The State Taxation Further Amendment Bill 2024 passed the Senate yesterday with amendments exempting GPs from payroll tax on bulk billed services.
