The new $50 million Melton Homemaker Centre, located in the fast-growing City of Melton, will celebrate its official opening on Saturday, December 7 with a ribbon cutting and Family Fun Day.

Where: 2290-2296 Melton Highway, Melton

When: Opening Ceremony: 9.30am, with representatives of joint developers MHG and Harvey Norman, as well as the Mayor of the City of Melton, Councillor Steve Abboushi.

The opening will feature a Family Fun Day, featuring a range of attractions for the whole family, including face painting, balloon artist, sausage sizzle, giveaways and an early appearance by Santa Claus.

Mayor Cr Abboushi said “This centre will provide a boost for the economy of Melton and create more local jobs. It will also provide families in the area with a superb amenity, and everything they need for their homes”.

Anchor tenant Harvey Norman has opened a 7,000 square metre large format retail store and is complemented by a quality mix of nationally recognised retail brands, including Fantastic Furniture, National Tiles, Pillow Talk, Snooze, Forty Winks and House within the 18,000 square meter Homemaker Centre. The centre provides convenient car parking for 500 cars and 66 bicycles.

Harvey Norman Head of Asset Management Michael Read said “We are very excited to have opened our latest Harvey Norman store in Melton. With population data showing Melton as one of the fastest growing Local Government Areas in the country over recent years, there is very strong demand from families in the area for electrical appliances, furniture, bedding and other items for their homes”.

Co-developer of the centre, MHG is a family-owned company and acquired the Melton site in 1996 to operate a plant featuring state of the art robotic painting, plastic extrusion and injection moulding manufacturing facility to support Toyota, Ford, Mitsubishi and GMH. The plant closed in 2021.

MHG established the Melton Gateway Centre on its adjoining 30,000 square metre site in 2007.

Chairman of MHG, Mr Steve Haritos, said “The success of the Melton Gateway project provided the impetus for this exciting new and state of the art, large format retail, Melton Homemaker Centre project with Harvey Norman. MHG has been a member of the Melton community over the last 28 years”.
