New upgrade makes it easy to ‘return and earn’ in Narrandera

Return and Earn 2 mins read

Return and Earn has launched an innovative “takes all” trial that is set to transform how Narrandera residents recycle their eligible bottles, cans and cartons.

No more pre-sorting of containers – you can now drop all your eligible drink containers through any single chute at our updated machine, making it faster to return and earn the 10c refund for every container.

The upgrade has been made to the Narrandera Recycling Return and Earn machine located in the car park at 16 Red Hill Rd, Narrandera. The machine is open Monday to Friday from 9:00am to 7:00pm; and Saturday to Sunday from 10:00am to 7:00pm.

“Narrandera Shire Council residents are already enthusiastic recyclers, having returned more than over 10.755 million eligible bottles, cans and cartons through local return points since the scheme began,” said James Dorney, CEO of TOMRA Cleanaway, network operator for Return and Earn.

“These improvements to local return points will make it even easier and quicker to return your eligible bottles and cans and pocket the refund.

Recyclers can still print a voucher for the refund amount, which can be redeemed for cash at Coles, or they can opt for an e-voucher or payment directly into their bank or PayPal account using the Return and Earn app.

Locals can also donate their refund to one of over 300 donation partners listed on the Return and Earn app, or to the current statewide donation partner Foodbank NSW & ACT.Foodbank is a food relief charity providing much needed assistance to individuals and families across NSW and the ACT.

Return and Earn has become a key fundraising channel for many charities and community groups in NSW. Over $62 million has been raised from donations and fees from hosting return points since the scheme launched in 2017.

More than 12.5 billion drink containers have been returned for recycling through the network of over 650 return points across NSW since Return and Earn began, resulting in over $1.25 billion in container refunds back in people’s pockets.

“I encourage everyone in the region to continue to make Return and Earn a part of your routine. Together, we are all contributing to a more sustainable future, where the materials that our bottles, cans and cartons are made of are kept in use and out of landfill,” said Mr. Dorney.

Hunter mines meet dust suppression standards

Hunter mines are suppressing dust and minimising impacts on local air quality, according to the NSW Environment Protection Authority (EPA)’s recent Bust the Dust campaign. Launched on 1 September 2025, the NSW EPA’s annual campaign involved 34 surprise inspections of the region’s 12 open cut mines to assess compliance with dust mitigation requirements. NSW EPA Director of Operations David Gathercole said the results were a good outcome for mines and the community. “We know people in the Hunter are concerned about the potential impacts of particulate pollution, and we take these issues seriously,” Mr Gathercole said. “That’s why we ramped…
