Recycling made easier with new Return and Earn machine in Chatswood

Return and Earn 2 mins read

Chatswood locals have a new location to recycle their eligible bottles, cans and cartons with the opening of a new Return and Earn machine at Chatswood Place.

As the fifth return point in the Willoughby City Council area, it is now even more convenient for local community members to redeem their eligible bottles and cans for the 10c refund.

Willoughby residents are enthusiastic recyclers, having returned more than 30.2 million eligible bottles and cans through local return points since Return and Earn started,” said James Dorney, CEO of TOMRA Cleanaway, network operator for Return and Earn.

Recyclers using the new machine can print a voucher for the refund amount, which can be redeemed for cash at Woolworths, or they can opt for an e-voucher or payment directly into their bank or PayPal account by using the Return and Earn app.

Locals can also choose to donate their refund to one of over 300 donation partners listed on the Return and Earn app or donate to the current statewide donation partner Foodbank NSW & ACT.

The food relief charity provides much needed food assistance to individuals and families across NSW and the ACT.

Return and Earn has become a key fundraising channel for many charities and community groups in NSW. More than $62 million has been raised from donations and fees from hosting return points since the scheme launched in 2017.

Over 12.5 billion drink containers have been returned for recycling through the Return and Earn network of over 650 return points across NSW, resulting in more than $1.25 billion in refunds back to the community.

“I encourage everyone to make Return and Earn a part of your routine, to help reduce litter, protect the environment and get a bit of extra cash for your efforts,” said Mr. Dorney.

The Return and Earn Chatswood Place machine is located in the car park at 260 Victoria Ave, Chatswood. It is open daily from 7:00am to 10:00pm.

Summer is peak season for Return and Earn, with up to 9 million containers expected to be returned daily in December and January. To make your return experience as smooth as possible, you can check the live status of machines before heading out, helping you to avoid delays. Just head to the Return and Earn website or use the Return and Earn app for live updates. While you're there, you can also check if your containers are eligible or use the container checker tool on the app for added convenience.

For immediate release 16 Jan 2025 The findings in the Climate Council’s reportElectric Shock! Electric Shock: Half of NSW in the dark on renewable energy progress, knowledge gap risks slowing transition

16th of January 2024 AUSTRALIANS ARE UNDERESTIMATING the speed and scale of our switch to renewable power. New South Wales is in the midst of a clean energy boom as four-fifths of our electricity is set to come from renewable sources by 2030, and all of our ageing coal-fired power stations closing by 2040. However, new Essential Research polling commissioned by the Climate Council—Electric Shock! Australia’s Lightbulb Moment—shows a glaring knowledge gap that risks undermining trust in the energy transition. Addressing this gap is key to empowering New South Wales to embrace and benefit from the increasing momentum of renewable…
