Bupa and Healthscope reach a new agreement

31 January, 2025 2 mins read

Bupa Australia and Healthscope are pleased to announce they have reached a two-year in-principle agreement to ensure customers will continue to experience no additional out of pocket expenses when receiving care at a Healthscope hospital.

Bupa Health Insurance Acting Managing Director Kate Williams said the agreement confirmed Bupa and Healthscope’s shared commitment to work collaboratively to deliver affordable, high-quality, and innovative care for their shared patients.

“We understand this may have caused our customers some uncertainty while we were working towards an agreement, and I want to thank them for their patience and understanding during the past few months,” Ms Williams said.

“Our priority throughout negotiations has been ensuring private health remains affordable for our customers while also acknowledging the cost pressures hospitals are facing, and supporting Healthscope to continue to deliver high-quality care, in a sustainable way.

“Together, we’re committed to improving health outcomes and enhancing patient experiences. We will do this by creating greater system efficiencies, and investing in patient-centred innovations and initiatives that modernise care.

“We know this is essential to ensuring that Australia’s private health system remains resilient and sustainable, not just for today, but well into the future,” Ms Williams added.

Healthscope Chief Commercial Officer Dhruv Gupta said the new agreement gives certainty to our staff, doctors and Bupa customers, while also acknowledging the financial challenges facing private hospitals.

“This new agreement means we can continue to care for Bupa members in our hospitals across Australia, without the need for additional fees. We look forward to continuing our partnership with Bupa, working constructively together to deliver outstanding and efficient patient care, and collaborating on initiatives to support the long-term sustainability of the sector.”

The new agreement means our members can continue to access the full range of services offered at Healthscope’s 38 facilities around Australia with certainty that they won’t face additional hospital charges.

Men’s Health Week: Funding for longer consults can make GPs one-stop shop for sexual health and HIV prevention

During Men’s Health Week 2025 the Royal Australian College of GPs (RACGP) is calling on the Federal Government to improve men’s sexual health by boosting investment in general practice care so specialist GPs can provide longer consultations. The College says more funding for longer consultations would improve access to important preventive care, such as pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP), – a highly effective daily or on-demand medication that prevents HIV transmission in 99% of cases. RACGP Specific Interests Sexual Health Medicine Chair Dr Sara Whitburn said practices can offer the most convenient access to PrEP for people at higher risk of HIV,…
