EPA SEEKING INFORMATION ABOUT PEACOCK DEATH

NSW Environment Protection Authority (EPA) < 1 mins read

The NSW Environment Protection Authority (EPA) is appealing for information from the Central Coast community after a suspicious peacock death.

On Thursday 2 January the EPA received a report from a concerned community member about a dead peacock on Coachwood Drive, Ourimbah. The bird had shown signs of a possible poisoning, including diarrhoea and other symptoms.

Community members are being urged to contact the EPA if they are aware of any other peacocks or birds in the area that may have been impacted.

NSW EPA Director Operations, David Gathercole asked the general public to contact the EPA if they have any information about this matter.

We consider the killing of birds a serious offence and we’re making inquiries in the local area.

“Under the Pesticides Act, it’s illegal to use pesticides to kill or harm non-target animals.

“We encourage anyone with information to come forward by calling our 24/7 Environment Line on 131 555 or emailing [email protected].”

It’s not advisable for members of the public to handle sick or deceased birds. If you find a sick bird WIRES 24/7 Rescue Call Centre can be contacted on 1300 094 737.

Talent Alert: Experts and case study available for interview on CSIRO GenCost Draft 2025-26 Report

Wednesday 17 December For immediate release. CSIRO’s Draft 2025-26 GenCost Report, released today, has once again found that renewables (solar and onshore wind) are set to form the lowest cost electricity generation mix for Australia through to 2050. The new CSIRO and AEMO modelling confirms electricity generation costs would be a third lower with an 82% renewable grid, while building a new coal-fired power station today would deliver electricity for at least double the cost of solar and wind. Today’s report underscores that the pace of the shift to clean energy must increase, to secure a stable electricity grid and…
