Mahmood Mosque, Adelaide’s Largest, Hosts Australia Day Dinner on 25 January 2025

Ahmadiyya Muslim Community < 1 mins read

On the eve of Australia Day, members of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community will gather at Mahmood Mosque, Adelaide's largest, on January 25th to express their gratitude to the nation for the religious freedom they enjoy here. As a gesture of gratitude, the mosque is hosting a complimentary Australia Day Dinner, inviting the wider community to join.

Like many others, newly arrived young community members, Tashif Ahmad Jajja (Year 11 at Findon High School) and Basit Ahmad Jajja (Year 8 at Findon High School), will participate in the event for the first time. They arrived in Australia from Pakistan, in May 2024. In Pakistan, Ahmadiyya Muslims face state-sponsored persecution for their beliefs and are denied the freedom to practice their religion. Tashif and Basit, along with others are thankful for the freedom that Australia has given them to practice their faith without fear of persecution.

Mahmood Mosque extends a warm invitation to everyone to join the dinner.

As the housing crisis fuels the flames of a cost-of-living crisis, the pressure is on to find solutions. Regional communities hosting major infrastructure projects have long faced unique housing challenges due to the boom-and-bust cycles of construction and operation. Renewable energy projects are no exception. As projects in the Illawarra Renewable Energy Zone progress, the region will see a temporary influx of workers. While this can bring economic benefits, it also risks exacerbating housing shortages in communities already…
