Memory Walk & Jog is headed to Goulburn for the first time!

Dementia Australia 3 mins read

Dementia Australia’s largest annual fundraising event, Memory Walk & Jog, is heading to Goulburn for the very first time to help raise funds in support of people living with dementia, their families and carers.

This year walkers, runners and joggers will set off on Saturday 15 March at Riverside Park, Goulburn to raise money, awareness and to get active for their brain health.

Dementia Australia Ambassador Jessica Redmayne laid down a challenge for the community of Goulburn calling on everyone to get involved in Memory Walk & Jog by either walking, running, volunteering, donating or supporting 2025 participants.

“By participating in Memory Walk & Jog you're helping broaden our community and spread awareness about dementia,” Jessica said.

“Most Australians are impacted by dementia in some way, whether you're supporting a loved one, family member, friend or colleague.

“Raising awareness helps further the education around dementia and helps to create a more dementia-friendly community. That way, people living with dementia feel supported and can prolong living as normal a life as possible.”

This year Dementia Australia hopes to have a record-breaking number of people sign up to participate across Australia, helping to raise more than $2 million to fund invaluable support, education and services for people living with dementia, their families and carers.

Dementia Australia CEO Professor Tanya Buchanan said that communities participating in Memory Walk & Jog play an integral role in helping to deliver services and increasing awareness of dementia.

“There are more than 660 people living with dementia in the Goulburn Mulwaree region,” Professor Buchanan said.

“Not only does Memory Walk & Jog help raise vital funds but it is an important opportunity to continue a national discussion about dementia and for everyone to get active and socially connect– two key things we can do to help reduce our risk of dementia.”

Registrations are open now for the 2025 Memory Walk & Jog event in Goulburn and across Australia. More details can be found at www.memorywalk.com.au/event/goulburn.

Repurposed diabetes drug can reduce pain for those with knee arthritis and overweight or obesity: study

A common diabetes drug can reduce the pain of people with knee osteoarthritis and overweight or obesity, possibly delaying the need for knee replacements, Monash University-led research has found. The randomised clinical trial looked at whether metformin, compared to a placebo, reduced knee pain in patients withsymptomatic knee osteoarthritis (knee OA) andoverweight or obesity. The research was performed entirely as a community-based study using telehealth. Some of the 107 participants with pain from knee osteoarthritis (73…
