People with Disability Australia (PWDA) congratulates Amanda Rishworth on their appointment as Minister for the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) and Dr Anne Aly as Assisting Minister. As the national cross-disability representative and rights organisation and peak for LGBTIQA+ people with disability, PWDA stands ready to work constructively with Minister Rishworth and Assisting Minister Dr Aly to deliver a better NDIS that works for participants, as well as programs and services that improve the lives of people with disability across Australia.

PWDA President Trinity Ford reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to working constructively with government to advance the rights and wellbeing of all people with disability.

“We congratulate Minister Rishworth and Assisting Minister Dr Aly on their appointments. With significant reform occurring both within the NDIS and the wider government ecosystem, we look forward to co-designing the way forward in partnership with all levels of government and our Ministers,” Ms Ford said.

The appointments come at a critical time for the disability sector, with the NDIS undergoing significant reform. PWDA is committed to ensuring people with disability are leading the co-design of these reforms and that all changes deliver the best outcomes for participants.

“This is an opportunity to build on the foundation of the NDIS and ensure it delivers what it was designed to achieve: a better quality of life, independence and participation in the community for people with disability. We look forward to working with Minister Rishworth and Assisting Minister Dr Aly to ensure the voices of our community are heard, respected and leading reform,” Ms Ford said.

PWDA thanks outgoing Minister for the NDIS, Bill Shorten, for his contributions to the disability community and NDIS.
