Tiny Artworks, Big Impact

Arts in Greater Dandenong 2 mins read

Arts in Greater Dandenong is delighted to announce the launch of the 9 by 5 Exhibition, an inspiring event that continues a legacy of creativity dating back to 1889.

Showcasing over 200 captivating works created by artists on nine by five-inch boards.  Works will span the gamut of mediums, from painting to textiles, photography to collage, each piece reimagines the possibilities of small-scale art.

Inspired by the iconic Melbourne exhibition that featured celebrated artists such as Tom Roberts, Charles Conder, Arthur Streeton, and Frederick McCubbin, this modern interpretation highlights the extraordinary creativity of our local and interstate arts community.

Mark your calendars. The exhibition opens to the public on Monday, 10 February 2025, but the celebration truly begins on Saturday, 15 February at 3pm with the official launch in the Drum Theatre Foyer. This vibrant event is open to all, promising an afternoon of excitement, discovery, and connection. Mingle with some of the artists behind the works and explore an eclectic collection brimming with creativity and heart.

Be there as the winners are revealed. The prestigious 9 by 5 awards, including Best in Show (supported by City of Greater Dandenong), Community Connections (sponsored by Community Bank Dingley Village), and Highly Commended (sponsored by Holiday Inn Dandenong), will be announced at the launch. These accolades not only honour artistic excellence but also celebrate the vital role of local organisations and their support for the arts.

The exhibition’s People’s Choice award adds an interactive twist, inviting visitors to cast their votes throughout the exhibition period.

With all works available for purchase, attendees can bring home a miniature masterpiece while supporting the artists and their stories. Don’t miss this dynamic showcase of talent, perspective, and community spirit.

The exhibition will run from Monday 10 February to Friday 2 May, open to the public Monday to Friday from 10am to 4pm and selected Saturdays, 10.30am - 2.30pm.
