Community Options to transition out of Commonwealth funded Aged Care services and NDIS services

Community Options < 1 mins read

Community Options ACT has made the difficult decision to withdraw from providing services under the National Disability and Insurance Scheme (NDIS) and Commonwealth funded Aged Care Services by June 30, 2025.

The decision follows significant changes to Commonwealth aged care programs and the evolving NDIS framework. An exhaustive review of the new reforms found the continuation within these service models financially unsustainable long term.

Multiple options were considered but none aligned with Community Options’ mission and commitment to quality care.

“This is a difficult decision and we deeply regret the impact this will have on clients, staff and the broader community,” Brian Corley, CEO, Community Options spokesperson said.

“We understand the impact this transition will have. Our priority now is to ensure every client receives the right support and every staff member is given the resources they need to move forward.

“We remain committed to putting people first as we always have. We are working with service providers and stakeholders and are here every step of the way to support clients and staff throughout this process.

“Our priority is ensuring that every individual and family we support is guided through this transition with care, dignity and professionalism.”

Community Options is proud to have served the Canberra community for more than three decades and will continue to do so; operating as an independent, grassroots case management service, supporting at-risk individuals and families across various sectors.

Community Options will provide a structured and responsible transition for everyone. All affected clients will be individually supported to transition to a new service provider.

Community Options is a not-for-profit organisation that has always put people ahead of profits and that core value will guide our actions during this period.

Federal Budget falls short of what is needed to truly address inequality and poverty: Oxfam

In response to the 2025 Federal Budget, Oxfam Australia Acting Chief Executive Dr Chrisanta Muli said: "In a world facing unparalleled crises, escalating conflict, and growing poverty, the Australian Government's Federal Budget falls short of what is needed to truly address inequality and poverty, both domestically and internationally. “We welcome the Australian Government’s commitment to stabilising development and humanitarian funding – this goes against the trend of other countries and is a principled and strategic decision, bringing the total to $5.097 billion. However, as a percentage of the Federal Budget, aid has fallen to 0.65%, well short of what is…

Astounded: More dollars for everyone except those with the least

ACOSS CEO, Dr Cassandra Goldie said: “We always knew this was going to be an election budget. In the lead up, we have welcomed some important investments in essential services, including health, public education and early childhood education. “We’re astounded that the centrepiece of tonight’s budget is more dollars for everyone except those with the least. “Only a year after the last tax cuts, the government is announcing a new set. “We need a budget and an election that sets us up for the future. The last thing we need is a bidding war on more tax cuts. “In the…
