Get active and beat dementia in the Illawarra!

Dementia Australia 2 mins read

The 2025 Illawarra Memory Walk & Jog is nearly here with the event taking place on Sunday 16 March at Lang Park, Wollongong.

Dementia Australia’s largest annual fundraising event returns to the Illawarra in the hopes of attracting our biggest crowd yet, with participants helping to raise funds in support of people living with dementia, their families and carers.

Join us for a wonderful fun, family friendly day out. Each event is a fantastic opportunity for people impacted by dementia and their supporters to come together to walk or run, raise much-needed funds and to connect.

An estimated 4,170 people live with dementia in the Illawarra region. Dementia is the second leading cause of death of Australians and the leading cause of death of Australian women.

As the number of Australians impacted by dementia continues to grow, it is more important than ever that we raise funds and encourage everyone to get active for their brain health.

Get active and beat dementia, sign-up to participate in Memory Walk & Jog or volunteer at www.memorywalk.com.au/event/illawarra.

Can’t attend Memory Walk & Jog but want to be involved? Organise your own group or individual walk or jog, with a MyWay event. Choose your own date and location and register at www.memorywalk.com.au/get-involved/mw.

Menopause care is more than a repeat prescription: RACGP

Victorian women need better access to ongoing menopause care, not just another way to obtain medication, the Royal Australian College of GPs (RACGP) says. The call follows the Victorian Government's expansion of Chemist Care Now, allowing eligible women to obtain a one-month resupply of menopausal hormone therapy (MHT) from participating pharmacies. Ahead of the Victorian election, the RACGP is calling on the next government to strengthen access to affordable general practice care and pause any further expansion of Chemist Care Now until a comprehensive, independent review has examined its impact on patient safety, health outcomes and continuity of care. RACGP…

Bupa calls for urgent changes to +65 rebate bill to protect pensioners and retirees

09 October, 2026 Quotes attributable to Bupa Health Insurance Managing Director Kate Williams At a time when pensioners and retirees are already being squeezed by rising living costs, removing the age-based rebate risks pricing some older Australians out of private health insurance altogether. About 500,000 Bupa policies are held by Australians aged more than 65 on lower incomes. After decades of contributing to the private health system, many now face the prospect of paying more for the cover they have relied on for years. Many have told us they are already struggling with cost-of-living pressures. Removing the age-based rebate could…
