NSW Apartment Solar Initiative changes the game for units

Rewiring Australia < 1 mins read

Rewiring Australia strongly endorses the NSW Government’s Solar for Apartment Residents incentive announced today.

“Apartment residents have long faced barriers to accessing solar but this policy will help change that,” said Rewiring Australia CEO Francis Vierboom.

“With around 20% of NSW households living in apartments, it is vital they too can benefit from lower bills and clean energy provided by solar.

"It’s great to see the government recognising the importance of making clean energy available to all types of homes."

While this program is a major step forward, Rewiring Australia is calling for further measures to bring bills down for units.

“We must require all new builds to be fitted with all-electrical appliances such as electric cooktops and heat pumps, instead of gas appliances which leave renters stuck with higher bills,” said Mr Vierboom.

“The government should also set up an online information hub to help apartments upgrade to efficient electric appliances to make the most of their solar power.

“With Australia’s transition to clean energy accelerating, it is crucial that no households, whether in standalone homes or apartments, are left behind.”

Trump interference in Australian research must be rejected: union

The National Tertiary Education Union (NTEU) has urged the federal government to reject the Trump administration’s attempt to interfere in Australian research. Researchers working on projects jointly funded by US federal agencies have been sent a 36-point questionnaire asking about compliance with Donald Trump’s radical right-wing agenda. Questions include whether researchers’ university has ever received funding from China and if the project complies with the administration’s transphobic “two sexes” executive order, the Australian Financial Review reports. The questionnaire also asks about secure borders with Mexico; diversity, equity and inclusion; ending government waste; terrorism; the war on opioids; and eradicating anti-Christian…
