
WHAT: The City of Sydney will host 2 ceremonies to officially mark the start of Mardi Gras celebrations.
The Lord Mayor will cut a ribbon to officially open a new colourful Progress Pride flag and raised intersection at Taylor Square, outside Qtopia.
The ribbon cutting will be followed by the Progress Pride flag raising ceremony at Sydney Town Hall.
In celebration of the Mardi Gras 2025 theme – Free to Be – leading members of the LGBTIQA+ communities have been invited to come together for the ceremonies.
2024 marks the 47th anniversary of Sydney Mardi Gras, which was born out of political action in the LGBTQIA+ communities and continues to highlight important issues and lobby for change.
WHEN: TODAY, Friday 14 February
TIMES: 4-4.30pm – ribbon cutting at Taylor Square
5-6pm – indoor reception at Sydney Town Hall
6-6.15pm – outdoor flag raising and photo opportunities on Town Hall steps
WHERE: Corner of Bourke and Forbes Streets, Taylor Square, followed by Sydney Town Hall
WHO: Lord Mayor Clover Moore will be joined by City of Sydney councillors and
representatives of Sydney Mardi Gras and the Sydney LGBTQIA+ community.
