With the dust still settling on news that Queensland’s Brady Fielder (Clermont) is now the *number one bull rider in the world, the chutes to the Professional Bull Riding (PBR) Australian season officially open this weekend in Scone, New South Wales, with Brady’s fellow Queenslanders leading the charge! As world class Aussies continue to take the USA by storm in the PBR, the biggest and most competitive bull riding event across the globe, the Australian competition is acclaimed as the source of some of the best in the world, and Queenslanders top the leaderboards.

PBR Australia General Manager Glen Young said the bucks start this weekend in Scone. “This weekend is the PBR Monster Energy Tour Scone Invitational, the first event of the Monster Energy Tour as the road to 2025 Grand Finals in Townsville begins,” he said. “There’s only nine opportunities between now and Origin to qualify for the hotly contested Origin series.”

Champions return, rising stars go for glory and juniors buckle up!

“This weekend is the start of a season that will see our champions and fan favourites return to the arena, new and rising stars will take their turn in the spotlight, and our juniors will start their journey. There’s an exciting year ahead for Professional Bull Riding in Australia as the sport grows and grows,” said Glen.

The biggest names in Australian Bull Riding will return with 2024 Champion and Rookie of the year Boston Leather, and brother Macaulie Leather (both from Calliope in Queensland), 2023 Champion and 2024 Australian Champion Runner Up riding in Scone. The event will also see the return of fan favourites - Ben Bode (also from Calliope Queensland) and Zane Hall (Athol, Queensland). Zane, the 2024 Rookie of the Year, returns from the US this week to join the season.

Next Gen is Chute Ready: Australia’s Juniors Ready to Ride

The PBR Australia Junior division kicks off this weekend as well, with the sport in safe hands given the number and calibre of riders ready for the chutes. Returning to ride in 2024 is:

  • Pee Wee Mini Bull Champion Sonny Heffernan (Singleton, NSW), nephew of 2022 Champion Cody Heffernan who is now riding in Junior Mini Bull Division.
  • 2024 Junior Mini Bull Champion Kassedy Carlon Bundarra/Armidale, NSW), who was hundreds of points ahead of the competition last year and will now ride in Senior Mini Bull Division.
  • 2024 Rising Star Champion Jaxsen Tremayne (Morayfield/Brisbane, QLD), who consistently performed in 2024 and competes to hold his title in 2025.

“We’re incredibly proud of the talent coming out of PBR Australia. Through structured training and top-tier events, we provide athletes with the foundation to excel both at home and on the global stage. The PBR Australia circuit plays a vital role as a pathway to the prestigious U.S. PBR circuit, offering our riders invaluable experience and opportunities to compete at the highest level,” said Glen.
