Finalists Announced for the First Tyre Fitter of the Year Awards

The search for Australia’s best tyre fitters has reached an exciting stage with the announcement of the state finalists for the Haulmax Wingman Tyre Fitter of the Year Awards. Recognising outstanding skills, safety excellence, and customer service in the tyre fitting industry, the awards are divided into two categories: Commercial Truck Tyre Fitter of the Year and Agriculture, Industrial & Construction Tyre Fitter of the Year.

Selected from an impressive pool of nominations, these finalists represent the best in their field, ensuring that transport fleets, farmers, construction and industrial operations across Australia remain on the move with expertly fitted and maintained tyres. Each finalist has demonstrated technical expertise, a commitment to safety, and dedication to outstanding customer service in their respective industries.

The Haulmax Wingman Tyre Fitter of the Year Awards are designed to celebrate the often-unsung heroes of the transport, agriculture, and industrial sectors - tyre fitters who go above and beyond to keep heavy machinery and vehicles running safely and efficiently.

Tyre Fitters Support Over 44% of Australia’s GDP

Australia’s tyre fitters keep the country moving by servicing the transport, agriculture, construction, industrial, and port sectors - key drivers of the national economy. Collectively, these industries contribute over $1.1 trillion to GDP, making up 44% of Australia’s total economic output.

Australia’s tyre fitters are the unsung heroes behind the industries that keep the nation moving, directly supporting sectors responsible for nearly 44% of the country’s $1.72 trillion GDP. Their expertise ensures the safety and efficiency of transport fleets, heavy machinery, and industrial equipment essential to Australia’s economy.

The Economic Breakdown

🔹 Freight & Transport$164.4 billion (7.9% of GDP)
🔹 Agriculture$60 billion (2.4% of GDP)
🔹 Construction$161 billion (7.5% of GDP)
🔹 Manufacturing & Industrial$122 billion (5.9% of GDP)
🔹 Mining$252 billion (12.2% of GDP)
🔹 Ports & Trade$264 billion (11.5% of GDP)

Together, these sectors generate over $1.02 trillion in economic output, highlighting the critical role of tyre fitters in maintaining Australia's essential infrastructure. From road trains crossing the country to tractors in the paddock and machinery at the ports, tyre fitters ensure that Australia’s economy doesn’t stop rolling.

From road trains crossing the Outback to heavy equipment on farms, ports, and worksites, tyre fitters keep the essential machinery of Australia’s economy running safely and efficiently. Their work ensures that industries responsible for nearly half of the country’s GDP remain productive and reliable.

🚨 Despite being in critical shortage, tyre fitting is still not recognised as a qualified trade in Australia—yet without them, trucks stop, harvests stall, and industry grinds to a halt. 🚨

“These awards celebrate the expertise and dedication of tyre fitters, whose skills are vital to the safety and efficiency of industries that keep our economy moving. In this inaugural year, the calibre of nominations has been outstanding, highlighting the technical proficiency, commitment, and professionalism of Australia’s tyre fitting specialists,” said Daniel Sapsead, Marketing & Communications Manager at Australian Tyre Traders, a proudly Australian family-owned tyre wholesaler and founder of the National Tyre Fitter of the Year Awards.

The awards are sponsored by Haulmax Wingman the largest truck tyre service network in Australia and Jonair Workshop Equipment, two tyre industry leaders committed to supporting the tyre fitting profession. These sponsors recognise the vital role tyre fitters play in ensuring the safety and reliability of Australia’s transport and heavy machinery sectors. The Agriculture, Industrial & Construction Tyre Fitter of the Year Award is sponsored by Harvest Tyres  and Ascenso Tyres both leading Agricultural & Specialist Off Road Tyre brands. reflecting their commitment to supporting the agricultural and industrial sectors with high-quality tyre solutions.

The Haulmax Wingman Tyre Fitter of the Year Awards were conceptualised to acknowledge the incredible and often overlooked contributions of tyre fitters to Australia’s economy. With one of the largest freight tasks in the world, Australia’s transport and logistics industry depends on the expertise of local independent tyre businesses to keep vehicles on the road safely and efficiently. Whether servicing road trains crossing the country or maintaining agricultural and industrial machinery essential to food production and construction, tyre fitters are an indispensable part of the supply chain.

State Winners will be announced at the end of February when the best of the best will be recognised for their expertise and contributions to the tyre fitting profession. The award winners will receive industry recognition, exclusive prizes, and the honour of being named Australia’s top tyre fitters in their respective fields.

Local communities are encouraged to support and celebrate their regional finalists and their local tyre business.
