Young photographers make it snappy at Little Sydney Lives

City of Sydney 2 mins read

Australia’s youngest artists are being asked to show their view of the world in this year’s Little Sydney Lives photography competition.

Open to children aged from 5 to 12, the City of Sydney invites budding photographers to send in their best takes of the city from the past 12 months.

Young creatives can let their imaginations run wild, with the Sydney Swans, a classic beach scene and a dragonfly all depicted in the images from last year’s finalists.

Now in its 15th year, the winner and runner up will both receive an OM System camera pack, worth around $1,300.

“The Little Sydney Lives competition is one of my favourite events as entrants really do give us a glimpse into creativity like no other,” Lord Mayor of Sydney, Clover Moore AO said.

A panel of judges will select 20 shortlisted finalists from the hundreds of young photographers expected to enter.

The finalists will have their images exhibited at Customs House Library in Circular Quay from 24 July with the winners announced at the opening event.

“I am always incredibly impressed by the quality of the entries each year,” the Lord Mayor said.

“Quirky, accomplished and unique, this fabulous competition is a real inspiration for photographers of every age.”

Massimo Morara Tabbò and Ruby Menzies were last year’s winners with their images Brother at Work and Bored in the Car.

Little Sydney Lives is part of the City of Sydney’s year-round Art & About program of events and temporary art projects in unusual spaces throughout the city.

Prizes for Little Sydney Lives are donated by competition partner OM System.

Entries close at 11:59pm on Sunday 2 April 2025.
