Leading Experts to Gather for 2nd International Sports and Cardiac Arrest Australia Symposium

When: Friday, March 7 – Sunday, March 9, 2025
Where: Mantra Lorne, Victoria

Health and sports media are invited to cover the 2nd International Sports and Cardiac Arrest Australia Symposium, an essential event for medical professionals, researchers, and sports health specialists.

This three-day symposium will feature cutting-edge research, best practices, and collaborative discussions on sudden cardiac arrest in athletes and sports cardiology. Notably, in Australia, more than 26,000 people experience out-of-hospital cardiac arrests each year, with only about 10 per cent of people surviving.

Keynote speakers include:

  • Professor Eloi Marijon (France) – Head of the Lancet Commission on Sudden Cardiac Death Prevention.
  • Professor Michael Papadakis (UK) – President of the European Association of Preventive Cardiology.
  • Rob de Castella AO, MBE (Australia) – Marathon legend and Director of the Indigenous Marathon Foundation.

This event is hosted by the Australian Sudden Cardiac Arrest Alliance (AuSCAA) in partnership with the Heart Foundation.

This means almost half a million people are paying more than they should for essential medicine, paying full price for medication when they should…

AI-powered breath test could detect silicosis early: study

The new test for silicosis has shown promise in an early study, and is now being analysed in larger cohorts. A new diagnostic tool developed by physicians and scientists fromUNSW Sydney that analyses a person’s breath for signs of silicosis has the potential to catch the disease earlier rather than wait for irreversible lung damage to appear. In a study published today in the Journal of Breath Research by Professor William Alexander Donald and Conjoint Professor Deborah Yates, the researchers describe a rapid, AI-powered breath test that could transform the way silicosis is diagnosed. The test combines mass spectrometry –…
