Aussie Mums Fed Up with Bill Shock and Blackouts Launch Pro-Nuclear Movement

Mums for Nuclear 2 mins read

Today, a new voice is stepping into Australia's energy crisis: Mums for Nuclear. This grassroots community of Australian mothers demands an end to the outdated ban on nuclear energy. They're fed up with wildly fluctuating power bills, constant price hikes, and unreliable electricity. Their solution is already providing stable power to homes worldwide—nuclear energy.

"We're everyday Aussie mums who've had enough of the energy roller coaster," says founding member Jasmin Diab. "Bills jump 30% overnight. Power cuts out during extreme weather. Last summer, our neighbourhood faced three blackouts during the worst heatwave in years. You worry if food will spoil. You worry about whether elderly parents will be safe without air conditioning. Nuclear energy would give Australian households the stable power and consistent pricing we need."

Australian families can't plan around unpredictable bills and services. "We can't budget when energy costs swing wildly each month," Jasmin Diab explains. "We can't rely on power staying on during critical times. Meanwhile, 30 other countries use nuclear power for electricity, which is dependable. Nuclear plants run at over 90% capacity year-round. They don't have our price spikes and supply issues. When countries add nuclear to their energy mix, bills become predictable. Blackouts become rare. Australian families deserve that certainty."

Reliability issues hitting Australian households are worsening. "Last winter, families in Victoria were told to limit electricity between 5-9 pm—exactly when everyone's cooking dinner," she says. "Nuclear provides constant output regardless of time, season, or weather. No more anxiety about power during peak times or extreme weather. And while solving today's reliability crisis, we're also addressing climate challenges with one of the lowest-emission energy sources available."

Mums for Nuclear Australia has one mission: lift the nuclear ban and give households energy they can depend on. "This isn't about politics," the group states. "It's about the basic expectation that the lights come on when you flick a switch. We need a debate based on facts, not fear. Australians deserve to hear the truth about modern nuclear energy. We're tired of price alerts telling us to use less power during peak times. I'm tired of summer warnings about potential blackouts. I'm tired of bills jumping another 15% for no reason. Nuclear offers what Australian families need—energy stability and price predictability."

The community invites all Australian families to join them. "We're standing up for what households need," Jasmin concludes. "Power that doesn't disappear during heatwaves or peak hours. Bills that don't send you into shock every month. Countries with nuclear don't face reliability issues and price volatility. It's time Australian energy policy put household stability first."

Dartbrook coal mine extension short sighted, reckless

In response to the NSW government’s approval of the extension of the Dartbrook thermal coal mine in the Hunter Valley, the Australian Conservation Foundation’s national climate policy adviser Annika Reynolds (they/them) said: “The decision of the Minns government to allow the Dartbrook thermal coal mine to keep mining coal until 2033 is reckless and short sighted. “In 2025, Dartbrook coal mine entered voluntary administration after accruing close to $50 million in losses, raising concerns about the mine’s capacity to pay its workforce, pay its taxes and royalties, or set aside sufficient funds to meet its rehabilitation obligations. “The Minns government…
