An Imported Attack on Trans Australians
Australian trans speaker and authenticity advocate Bobbi Barrington is calling out the fear-based rhetoric being imported from the U.S. into Australia - rhetoric that does nothing but harm trans people while distracting from real issues.
“We don’t need to borrow America’s culture wars,” Bobbi says. “Trans people in sport ? This has no impact on 99.9% of Australians. But it’s being used as a wedge issue - sowing division where none existed before.”

Manufactured Outrage, U.S. Playbook
It’s a script we’ve seen before.
Donald Trump made banning trans women in sport a key pillar of his campaign, signing an executive order barring trans girls from competing in female school sports and declaring, “The war on women’s sports is over.” ([Source: AFP])
Peter Dutton is now echoing that exact rhetoric, stating that allowing trans women to participate is “not in the spirit of sport” ([Source: News.com.au]).
Nationals Senator Matt Canavan has openly called for Australia to “follow Trump’s lead” in banning trans people from competing ([Source: AFR]).
Sky News Host Peta Credlin has stoked fears, framing trans women as a threat to girls’ dreams, pushing Dutton to publicly validate the manufactured outrage.
Michael Deacon, columnist for The Telegraph, claims that California Governor Gavin Newsom’s admission that trans women in sport is “unfair” is some grand revelation, stating:
“Well, of course, it’s unfair. And in contact sports, actively dangerous.”
Bobbi calls this out for what it is: a gross oversimplification designed to create outrage, not truth.
Bobbi says: “The world isn’t becoming more dangerous for sport. The world is becoming more dangerous for trans people. “This isn’t about fairness. This is about control - about deciding who gets to exist, who gets to belong, and who gets to play.”

What’s Really Happening ?
A classic distraction tactic. Instead of tackling real issues - rising living costs, the housing crisis, climate action - some politicians are choosing to push outrage over an issue that impacts virtually no one.
Fear-based politics. Most Australians do not personally know a trans person. Their ignorance is being manipulated, their goodwill exploited, and their fears inflamed - all for political gain.
A surge in transphobic rhetoric. The relentless media focus on trans women in sport - who are so few in number as to be barely measurable - manufactures an illusion of crisis where none exists.
