Beaudesert Bull Rider The Brains Behind the Origin Bravery:
PBR Australia Origin Coaches Revealed for the Ultimate Bull Riding Battle
Can NSW break the Maroon Bull Riding Dynasty?
The riders may be the ones climbing into the chutes, but behind every great bull rider is a coach whoâs lived it, breathed it, and knows exactly what it takes to win. In the 2025 PBR Monster Energy Origin Series, these men arenât just strategistsâtheyâre battle-hardened warriors, legends of the sport, and the driving force behind their teamâs quest for glory. Leading the maroon charge as coach is BEAUDESERTâs Jared BORGHERO, a fourth generation bull rider, and one of three bull riding brothers!
In breaking bucking news, the masterminds leading Queenslandâs maroon-clad warriors and New South Walesâ blue-blooded battlers into the arenas in Newcastle, Brisbane and Sydney will be bull rider-turned one of the toughest Protection Athletes in the game Jared Borghero for Queensland, and seven-time PBR World Finals qualifier and one of the sportâs most respected competitors in Gresford-born Lachie Richardson for NSW. Twice national champion, Singletonâs Cody Heffernan is assisting Richardson. (Bios below). VISION AND IMAGERY HERE
âThe fiercest rivalry in Australian sport isnât just played out on the footy fieldâit rages in the rodeo arena too. Welcome to the PBR Monster Energy Origin Series, where the boys go head-to-head in the toughest test of skill, strength, and sheer grit: professional bull riding. With nothing but eight seconds standing between glory and the dust, these boys ride for more than just personal victoryâthey ride for state pride,â said PBR Australia General Manager Glen Young.
Can New South Wales break all-time Queenslandâs hold on the title this year?
âWith Queensland now home to the #1 bull rider the world, in Clermontâs Brady Fielder and as of the PBR Meatstock Touring Pro in Bendigo, the #1 bull rider Australia in Ben Bode, from Calliope, plus never losing an Origin Series since it began in 2019, itâs going to be a fierce battle, with Queensland pumped for back-to-back victories, and NSW keen to make their mark,â he said.
Each Origin Event will have $50,000 in prizemoney, making it $150k over the Series. In addition to this the Cowboy of Origin (the rider with the highest aggregate over 3 events) will also receive a $30,000 bonus.
JARED BORGHERO â QUEENSLAND ORIGIN COACH
When it comes to PBR Australiaâs Origin Series, few understand what it truly means to wear maroon like Jared Borghero. A born-and-bred Queenslander from Beaudesert, Borghero has spent his life in the dirtâfirst as a bull rider, then as one of the toughest Protection Athletes in the game.
BUILT FOR THE ARENA - Bull riding runs deep in the Borghero familyâfour generations deep, and his two brothers Ky and Jay also ride. At 15, he rode his first bull, by 2016-17, he was at the top of his game, winning the legendary Mount Isa Rodeo bull ride, securing the APRA Pro Tour title, and earning Protection Athlete of the Yearâa season heâll never forget. It was in 2015 that he found his true callingâbecoming a PBR Protection Athlete. Standing between a fallen rider and a raging bull takes a special kind of courage, and Borghero has proven time and again why heâs one of the best in the business. With 13 Protection Athlete titles, heâs built a legacy of fearlessness and instinct. In a twist that may or may not happen, Jaredâs TWO bull riding brothers may be selected which would create one massive maroon-coloured family bull riding legacy!
THE MAROON DYNASTY - For Borghero, coaching Queensland isnât just an honourâitâs personal. âItâs one of the top three proudest moments of my life to be appointed coach. Anyone who knows me understands what Origin means to me and this great state we live in.â His philosophy? Queenslanders donât just competeâthey dominate. âWe are all one in the maroon sheds. We support each other, we fight for each other, and I have no doubt these boys will make Queensland proud again. My advice is to get comfortable with being uncomfortable.â
LACHIE RICHARDSON â NSW STATE OF ORIGIN COACH
From the rolling hills of Gresford, NSW, to the worldâs biggest bull riding stages, Lachie Richardson has built a career defined by toughness and an unbreakable will to succeed. A seven-time PBR World Finals qualifier, the 2012 PBR Australia Rookie of the Year, and one of the sportâs most respected competitors, now, he steps into a new challengeâleading Team New South Wales in the fiercest battle of them all: PBR Origin Series.
THE MAKING OF A CHAMPION - Born into a family with bull riding in its blood, Lachie was just 10 years old when he rode his first calf, with the guidance of his uncle. That early passion turned into a career spanning over a decade at the highest level. His crowning moment? Qualifying seven times for the PBR World Finals, the pinnacle of professional bull riding.
FROM RIDER TO COACH - After hanging up his rope in 2024 to focus on familyâespecially with a new baby due in MayâRichardson said, âItâs an honour to be asked to coach Team NSW. Origin was always my favourite time of year, and now itâs no differentâexcept now I get to put my full focus on the team.â His game plan? Let the talent shine while ensuring his riders are mentally strong and ready to perform. "We donât talk. We ride. Rest at the end, not in the middle."
With Richardson at the helm, expect a team thatâs tough, focused, and ready for battle. Queensland might bleed maroon, but this year, New South Wales is ready to bring the blue wave.
CODY HEFFERNAN â NSW ASSISTANT COACH - Born and raised in Singleton, Cody is no stranger to the demands of bull riding. Starting as a young boy on calves at just 4 years old, Heffernan was inspired by the legendary movie 8 Seconds. Heffernanâs career highlights include two National Championships in 2016 and 2022, with one of his most unforgettable moments coming when he rode Boogerâs Beach for 92 points to clinch the 2022 title.
