Brookvale welcomes its first Return and Earn Bulk Centre

Return and Earn 2 mins read

Brookvale is now home to a Return and Earn Bulk Centre, designed to make recycling eligible bottles and cans easier than ever before.

Brookvale Return and Earn Bulk Centre is the 15th return point on the Northern Beaches but the first of kind, featuring the latest ‘tip and go’ technology. This allows users to deposit their containers into the machine without sorting, making it ideal for returning 500 or more containers at a time.

Locals can save time by using the ‘tag and drop’ service also offered at the Bulk Centre. Simply register on the Return and Earn app to print a tag from the terminal, then drop off your tagged bag and our staff will process the containers and provide the refund via the app.

The Centre also has two Return and Earn machines that accept all container types for anyone with smaller amounts of drink containers.

Brookvale Return and Earn Bulk Centre is located at 134 -140 Old Pittwater Road and is open daily from 7.00 am to 6.00 pm.

Northern Beaches residents are already enthusiastic recyclers, having returned over 237 million eligible bottles, cans and cartons through local return points since the scheme began in 2017,” said James Dorney, CEO of TOMRA Cleanaway, network operator for Return and Earn.

“These improvements to local return points will make it even easier and quicker to return your eligible bottles and cans and pocket the refund,” said Mr. Dorney.

Users of the new Brookvale Return and Earn Bulk Centre can print a voucher for the refund amount, which can be redeemed for cash at Coles, or opt for an e-voucher or bank payment using the Return and Earn app.

Locals can choose to donate their refund to one of the 300 donation partners featured on the Return and Earn app or donate to the current statewide donation partner Foodbank NSW & ACT. The food relief charity provides much needed food assistance to individuals and families across NSW and the ACT.

More than 13 billion containers have been returned for recycling through the statewide network of more than 660 return points since the scheme began. This has resulted in $1.3 billion in container refunds back in people’s pockets.

Return and Earn has also become a key fundraising channel for many charities and community groups in NSW. More than $72 million has been raised from donations and fees from hosting return points since the scheme launched.

“Together, we are all contributing to a more sustainable future, where the materials that our bottles, cans and cartons are made of are kept in use and out of landfill.” said Mr. Dorney.

$1.16 MILLION HELPS COUNCILS TEAM UP TO CUT WASTE AND COSTS

Seven council-led initiatives will share $1.16 million to develop smarter, more cost-efficient waste and recycling services in the Northern Rivers, Hunter, Riverina, Central West, South West Sydney and South-East regions. The NSW Environment Protection Authority (EPA)’s Joint Procurement Funded Support program offers eligible groups up to $500,000 per project to access tailored advice, build partnerships and plan future waste infrastructure and services. NSW EPA Executive Director of Programs and Innovation Alexandra Geddes said the grants give councils and regional waste groups the backing they need to pool knowledge, boost capability and strengthen resources. “Regional councils consistently tell us that joining…

Homelessness NSW backs Wentworth Park plan to deliver 2,500 new homes

Homelessness NSW strongly backs the NSW Government's decision to raze Wentworth Park to build 2,500 new homes. “Providing housing to the people of Sydney is far more important than watching dogs race around a track,” said Homelessness NSW CEO Dominique Rowe. “Turning Wentworth Park into a public space and building 2,500 new homes is exactly the kind of bold decision we need more of. “Wentworth Park should serve the people of Sydney, not gambling interests which have caused financial hardship and homelessness for decades. “We call on the government to ensure at least 10% of the new homes built on…

Making waves: Innovative tool transforming beach safety education for migrants

Despite around 9,000 people being rescued by lifesavers each year, drowning deaths in Australia continue to rise, with one in three drowning victims born overseas. A new project led by Monash University is hoping to reverse this trend by developing an innovative tool to educate migrants on beach safety. Many migrants are required to sit the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) exam as part of the Australian visa application, university admissions, and employment processes. With thousands preparing for IELTS each year, a new study from Monash University, in collaboration with Surf Life Saving Australia and the UNSW Beach Safety…
