CA ANZ earns new Professional Standards Scheme approval

Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CA ANZ) is pleased to receive the approval of its new Professional Standards Scheme from the Professional Standards Councils. It applies in all Australian states and territories, under the Professional Standards Legislation.

The scheme is a statutory mechanism focused on ensuring consumer protection through high professional standards and mandatory professional indemnity insurance. In exchange for maintaining these high standards, participating CA ANZ members in public practice receive the benefit of statutory capped occupational liability.

CA ANZ has provided such a scheme for Australian members in practice since 1997.

To receive this endorsement, associations must show they are continuously improving the standards of members, by implementing robust regulatory systems and detailed risk management strategies designed to protect the consumer.

For CA ANZ, this includes promoting professional standards, upholding the code of ethics and regulating the conduct of approximately 32,000 Australian members in public practice whose work comes under this scheme.

“Ultimately, the scheme gives the public confidence that Chartered Accountants are being held to the highest standards, across regulation, education and ethics, by their membership body,” says CA ANZ Chief Executive Officer Ainslie van Onselen.

The renewal of the scheme will commence on 13 July 2025, for a duration of five years, applying to all members who hold a current Australian Certificate of Public Practice (CPP), as well as Affiliate Members and Practice Entity Members.

Low- and middle-income Australians with super should not foot the bill for compensation scheme cost blowout

Super tax receipts are expected to increase by $10.9 billion over the forward estimates from 2025-26 compared to the estimates in March’s Budget, a 10% increase on the already-high levels estimated in the last update. Despite that, the Government is asking poorer Australians, already feeling squeezed by cost-of-living pressures, to help plug a hole in…
