‘Wake up to nature risk’: World-record vote sends a clear signal to ANZ on deforestation

ANZ shareholders have delivered a world-record vote in favour of a deforestation resolution at the bank’s AGM in Sydney today. A resolution calling on the bank to disclose deforestation linked to its lending was supported by 22.7% of shares voted at ANZ’s AGM. The previous highest vote in favour of a deforestation resolution was a proposal in 2024 for PepsiCo to conduct a biodiversity impact assessment. It received 18% support from shareholders. NAB shareholders owning $9.74bn in shares call on the bank to do better on deforestation

Investors owning $9.74 billion of shares in Australia’s largest agribusiness bank have backed a resolution calling on NAB to disclose deforestation linked to its lending.* The resolution on disclosure of financed deforestation, facilitated by the Australian Conservation Foundation and co-filed by SIX, Australian Ethical, Melior Investment Management, was supported by 13.98% of shares voted at NAB’s AGM today.
