Community Connection for Blue Mountains Kids

The Rapid Relief Team (RRT) has brought out its barbeque in support of the Blue Mountains Youth Expos, aimed at getting 12-to-18-year-olds involved in fun, safe activities in their communities.

The Upper and Lower Mountains Youth Expos were organised by the Blue Mountains City Council to showcase the wide range of services and activities available to young people in the area.

Local Team Leader Ron Simpson said RRT was asked to support with the catering and cooked up a free barbeque dinner for everyone who attended.

“The Rapid Relief Team thought this was a fantastic initiative to get Blue Mountains kids aged 12 to 18 involved in fun activities, and to inform them and their families about the support services that are also available,” said Ron.

“We are always ready to support the community in any way we can, so we fired up the barbeque for both events, cooking up almost 300 sausage sandwiches for everyone.”

One event was held last night at Springwood and the other at Katoomba last week, featuring interactive stalls and workshops, fencing demonstrations and performances by dance troupes, circus acts and hip-hop artists.

“The Blue Mountains are a great place to live, and events like this showcase what a creative, vibrant, and caring community it is,” said Ron.

“Seeing so many people out in support of getting their kids engaged, active and involved was really wonderful.”

As the charitable arm of the Plymouth Brethren Christian Church, RRT supports frontline workers and emergency services by providing food, donations and other resources, as well as hosting events for the community.

Established in 2013 to assist emergency services in times of disaster and crisis by providing meals and other support, it’s expanded to more than 16,000 volunteers and provides support to the community through charitable donations and events.
