Homelessness Australia welcomes funding for peak bodies

Homelessness Australia has welcomed the Federal Government’s announcement of $6.2 million in peak body funding over 3 years that will enable critical advocacy, research and support for the homelessness sector to continue.

“If Australia is going to solve homelessness we need to draw on the policy, research and wisdom from people working to respond to homelessness, and from people with lived experience of homelessness,” CEO of Homelessness Australia Kate Colvin said.

“Homelessness Australia provides critical advice from the homelessness sector to governments to inform policy decisions, and maximise the impact of programs to drive down homelessness,” Kate Colvin said.

Homelessness Australia also informs public dialogue around homelessness, providing evidence and an expert voice to help educate people what is causing growing homelessness, and the evidence-based solutions needed to make a difference.

Homelessness Australia also supports the capacity of the homelessness sector, creating opportunities to connect with and share best practice to continually improve homelessness services.

“This important funding commitment will increase our capacity to support the homelessness sector and to develop policy recommendations, helping to develop the most effective responses to the growing homelessness crisis.”

Federal Budget falls short of what is needed to truly address inequality and poverty: Oxfam

In response to the 2025 Federal Budget, Oxfam Australia Acting Chief Executive Dr Chrisanta Muli said: "In a world facing unparalleled crises, escalating conflict, and growing poverty, the Australian Government's Federal Budget falls short of what is needed to truly address inequality and poverty, both domestically and internationally. “We welcome the Australian Government’s commitment to stabilising development and humanitarian funding – this goes against the trend of other countries and is a principled and strategic decision, bringing the total to $5.097 billion. CA ANZ GREEN LIGHTS UNIVERSITY AND TAFE INVESTMENTS IN FEDERAL BUDGET

26 March 2025 Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CA ANZ) has endorsed the Federal Budget’s university and TAFE investments after sustained calls for major reform of the higher education sector. CA ANZ was pleased to see an additional $2.5 billion over 11 years for a new higher education funding system which will provide more Commonwealth Supported Places and extra support for disadvantaged students. But it flagged that this new funding system must not impose hard caps on university enrolments. Instead, it should extend these Commonwealth Supported Places to all Australian higher education providers to expand student choices. CA ANZ…
