Iconic NT brand partners with CDU to ‘add a smile to students’ faces’ in colourful collaboration

Charles Darwin University 2 mins read

A funky fresh look for Charles Darwin University’s (CDU) range of apparel is set to sell out fast thanks to a bright and bold collaboration with House of Darwin.

Available in pink or teal, the limited edition t-shirts are a celebration of CDU’s first Orientation Week, or ‘O-Week’, at the Danala | Education and Community Precinct.

The mastermind behind the partnership, CDU Bookshop Business Manager Margaret Waterson-James, said she reached out to the iconic brand to develop something special for the new campus’s students.

Ms Waterson-James said the idea was met with enthusiasm by the House of Darwin team and from there, creativity bloomed.

“We workshopped ideas for the design, and I said I’d love to see Territory icons that related to learning included,” she said.

“House of Darwin came up with plenty of ideas like barramundi and dillybags, with the big boab tree being the central feature – just like the new campus.”

Ms Waterson-James said there was limited stock for each shirt with just 50 of each size and colour.

She said a more permanent range would be fantastic, but students had plenty of standard CDU apparel to choose from in the meantime.

“I'd love to have another range with House of Darwin, or possibly even a student-designed shirt,” she said.

“It could be a great opportunity for students to express themselves if we ran something like a competition to design a new shirt to represent their time here at CDU.”

House of Darwin Founder Shaun Edwards said he was excited to collaborate with CDU.

“It’s an iconic NT institution that we believe is pivotal in shaping the next generation of Territorians, and if the House of Darwin t-shirts can add a smile to students’ faces then we've done our job,” he said.

The t-shirts are available for purchase at the CDU Bookshop or online for $39.95 until stock runs out.

Serious response to youth crime demands serious investment in youth hubs

Youth Action is urging the NSW Government to ensure the 'Operation Soteria' crackdown on youth crime is accompanied by robust investment in youth hubs, which address the root causes of crime by offering practical, proactive support to at-risk young people. Youth hubs, already successfully in limited operation, provide young people with a one-stop shop to access support services and programs. Hubs aim particularly to support young people who have experienced trauma, poverty, or disengagement from education - factors known to drive youth crime. They offer opportunities for young people to gain essential life skills and connections to educational and employment…
