Massive Insurance Claim Floods Market with Premium Appliances $1 Auction

Lloyds Auctions 3 mins read

A $6M major insurance claim stock clearance has resulted in over 11,000 brand-new household appliances being auctioned off, with bidding starting at just $1.

Large volumes of claim-affected stock are being released for public auction in what is shaping up to be one of the biggest appliance clearances in recent years featuring major brands such as Apple, Samsung, Smeg, LG, Sony, Nespresso, Dyson, Fisher & Paykel and many more.

The auctions, managed by Lloyds Auctions, offer much-needed relief to Australians battling rising costs, providing an opportunity to replace or upgrade essential household items at a fraction of retail prices.

From Crisis to Clearance: A Unique Opportunity for Aussie Households

The clearance, facilitated by Lloyds Auctions, includes a wide range of big-brand appliances, including fridges, TVs, kitchen gadgets, coffee machines, blenders, and vacuum cleaners. Many of these items were originally earmarked for retail but can no longer be sold through traditional stores and must be cleared quickly.

“This event presents an opportunity for households to access premium appliances well below retail pricing,” said Lee Hames, Chief Operations Officer at Lloyds Auctions. “Many of these items are brand new, still in their original packaging, and would normally retail for thousands of dollars.” “With cost-of-living pressures rising, the timing of this clearance couldn’t be better” he continued.

Giving Premium Goods a Second Chance

In the past, products from major insurance or extreme weather events may have been written off entirely or sent to landfill due to no financially viable method of reselling them. However, the growing demand for sustainable solutions has led to more goods being redirected through auctions, preventing waste while offering affordable alternatives to consumers.

“We’re seeing more and more high-quality products being repurposed through auctions rather than being discarded,” Hames explained. “It’s a win-win situation—these products find new homes at affordable prices, and it reduces unnecessary waste.”

The auction event follows soon after ex-Cyclone Alfred, which caused widespread devastation across QLD and NSW. The influx of claim-affected stock, coupled with increasing commercial loss events, means Lloyds Auctions expects to process millions of dollars’ worth of product every week.

25 Auctions Over 11 Days—Nationwide Shipping Available

With warehouses at capacity, the scale of this clearance is significant. Lloyds Auctions is running 25 separate online auctions over 11 days, ensuring stock is cleared quickly. Nationwide shipping has also been made available, allowing buyers across the country to take advantage of the event.

“We have opened up Nationwide shipping to anywhere in Australia due to the massive demand and enquiry we have seen in previous insurance claim events,” continued Mr. Hames.

“If you’ve been affected by ex-Cyclone Alfred or are simply feeling the cost-of-living squeeze, this is a rare chance to secure premium household items at heavily reduced prices,” Hames said. “But once the stock is gone, it’s gone for good so bid early” Hames suggested.

A Growing Trend in Sustainable Stock Disposal

With businesses, retailers, and manufacturers seeking alternative ways to move unsellable but perfectly usable stock, auctions like these—such as those regularly conducted by Lloyds Auctions—are becoming a key part of the circular economy. For Lloyds Auctions, this means continuing to offer sustainable, practical, and affordable solutions for businesses while delivering exceptional deals to the public.

“This type of stock disposal is gaining momentum, as companies take greater responsibility for their environmental impact,” Hames added.

New research reveals GST inequity

Australia's complex web of GST exemptions is causing households which spend similar amounts each year to pay significantly different rates of tax, new research by the e61-UNSW Policy Research Partnership has shown. The study of the latest Household Expenditure Survey shows that among households spending about $38,000 a year, GST paid ranges from roughly $2,100 to $3,400 — meaning some pay around 37% more GST than others, despite spending the same overall amount. The variation is caused by Australia exempting so many items from theGST, such as certain types of food, health care and education fees. This means the amount…
