NEW AMEX DATA: Aussies’ have a case of the travel bug with 78% planning to take up to 3 holidays in 2025

Today, American Express has launched its 2025 Global Travel Trends Report, revealing that 78% of Australians plan to take up to three holidays this year, signalling a strong appetite for both domestic and international getaways.

Some key insights include:

  • Top priorities for Aussie holiday-goers this year include places that match their budget (68%) followed by places that match interests such as food, sport and fashion (42%), as well as locations that offer authentic local experiences (42%).
  • Interestingly, kids are becoming the key decision makers when it comes to booking travel with 59% of Australian parents agreeing their children help inform travel plans.
  • Travel hacking is proving to be a popular strategy, with 44% of Aussies planning to use points for travel this year.
  • Nearly half (46%) plan to book a trip this year to attend an entertainment event and the goal is to make lasting memories
  • 70% of Australians find Generative AI useful for booking trips, with 34% using it specifically for activity recommendations. Corinne Ng, American Express Vice President & General Manager of Travel & Lifestyle Services, says: “It’s clear that Aussies are redefining travel by prioritising meaningful experiences, maximising reward points and blending technology with personal insights. From kids influencing family trips to booking holidays around live events, travel is more intentional than ever.”
