Perth Scientist Creates Biodegradable ‘Gloves in a Bottle’ for Construction

An Australian based innovation is set to transform hand protection across industries with tackling the environmental challenges of disposable gloves. Liquim, an Osborne Park-based company, has developed microfilm barrier technology, introducing a biodegradable ‘liquid glove’ that safeguards hands without generating landfill waste.

At the forefront of this innovation is Velimir Pajic, a Perth scientist passionate about plant-based science since his teenage years. Pajic, the creator of RevoGlov, first envisioned the product during the COVID-19 pandemic when the World Health Organization called for solutions to curb the spread of disease.

"This led me down the path of creating a protective film that could shield skin from bacteria, contaminants, and harmful substances while eliminating the need for disposable gloves," Pajic explained.

The result was RevoGlov, a fully biodegradable, plant-based hydrogel that acts as an invisible glove, protecting hands from dirt, grease, paint, glue, and industrial contaminants. Unlike traditional disposable gloves, which take decades to decompose, RevoGlov leaves zero waste while offering the same level of protection.

While developed for multiple industries, including automotive, mining , food service, and manufacturing, RevoGlov is making significant traction in the construction sector, where workers frequently struggle with cracked, dirt-covered hands.

Sheryl Frame, CEO of RevoGlov, highlighted the product’s growing demand in construction:
"Workers in this industry are constantly exposed to dirt, cement, lime, resin and harsh chemicals. When you apply RevoGlov, you get the protection you need  and when you're done, the dirt[SF1]  and contaminants simply washes away with ease."

Construction worker Ciaran, who has been using RevoGlov, praised its effectiveness:
"My hands have never felt better. I can't believe how well RevoGlov works—not only does it protect my hands from grease and dirt, but washing it all off at the end of the day is effortless. My hands used to bleed before when I tried to wash of the dirt , but now it washes off so easily and not only that but it has also softened my skin which was a benefit I didn’t expect”.

RevoGlov allows users to retain full hand function while staying protected. Because RevoGlov is so thin, one can even use a fingerprint reader when the gloves have been applied. The hydrogel formula is applied like a sanitiser, drying in just 30 -60 seconds to form an ultra-thin, breathable barrier.

RevoGlov’s sustainability credentials further set it apart:
✅ 100% biodegradable & eco-friendly
✅ 5-8 times thinner than standard gloves
✅ 41 times less carbon footprint just in the manufacture process
✅ Zero landfill waste

As industries shift towards environmentally responsible solutions, RevoGlov represents a breakthrough in personal protective equipment. Pajic and his team at Liquim are now working to expand its applications beyond construction, ensuring industries worldwide can benefit from this eco-friendly alternative to disposable gloves.
