Darwin, NT [28/03/2025] – In a historic celebration of unity and shared humanity, the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community Darwin last night hosted the first-ever Interfaith Iftar Dinner at Charles Darwin University (CDU), drawing approximately 100 attendees from academia, student bodies, public service, and the broader community. The event, held in the Mal Nairn Auditorium, marked a milestone in fostering cross-cultural dialogue and solidarity during the holy month of Ramadan.
Organized by the small but resilient Ahmadiyya Muslim Community Darwin—comprising immigrants who fled religious persecution in countries like Pakistan—the evening exemplified their unwavering commitment to bridging divides. Despite their own challenges and the spiritual demands of fasting, the community “went above and beyond” to create a welcoming space for people of all faiths and those of none.
A Night of Unity and Enlightenment
The program began with reflections on the shared values of fasting across Hinduism, Christianity, and Islam, featuring interfaith speakers who underscored themes of compassion, service, and harmony. Attendees listened intently as representatives from diverse traditions echoed a unified call: “Together, we are stronger.”
As the sun dipped below the horizon, the call to prayer resonated through the auditorium. Guests joined in breaking their fasts with dates and water, followed by a hearty meal. Laughter and heartfelt conversations flourished, with strangers becoming friends over plates of biryani, salads, and traditional sweets.
Small Community, Big Heart
The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community Darwin, though modest in size, has long championed the ethos of “Love for All, Hatred for None.” Many members arrived in Australia as refugees, escaping state-sponsored persecution in Pakistan. Yet, rather than succumbing to alienation, they have embraced their adopted homeland with gratitude and vigor.
“Our faith teaches us to serve humanity, no matter the circumstances,” said one of the event organizers. “Australia welcomed us with open arms. This dinner is our way of giving back—to strengthen bonds and remind everyone that kindness transcends borders.”
A Model of Resilience and Hope
The evening concluded with attendees departing uplifted, carrying messages of unity into their communities. One attendee remarked, “I’ve never felt so connected to people from such different walks of life. This is the Australia we all believe in.”
