For the fifth consecutive year, Sorrento Surf Lifesaving Club has once again been named Champion Club at the 2025 Fuel to Go & Play WA Nipper Championships!

With a dominant performance over the weekend, Sorrento amassed an impressive 360 points, ahead of Mullaloo (256 points) and North Cottesloe (254 points), securing yet another title as the state’s leading junior surf lifesaving club.

The event saw over 1,000 Nippers from all over the state compete at Trigg Beach across three days of the long weekend, showcasing the incredible depth of talent in Western Australian surf lifesaving.

Based at Sorrento Beach in Western Australia, Sorrento Surf Lifesaving Club is built on a strong family culture, with its junior members forming the foundation for the club’s future. The Nippers program is one of the largest in the country, with almost 1,000 Nippers taking part each season. The program plays a crucial role in developing young members into active patrolling lifesavers while also offering pathways for those eager to pursue surf sports at a competitive level. A key strength of the program is the dedication of parents, who actively contribute in roles such as water safety, coaching, and officiating at competitions.

Junior Director Keiron Burke praised the exceptional efforts of the club’s Nippers, highlighting their determination and team spirit as key to the victory.

“This is an incredible achievement for our young athletes. Every single Nipper who competed for Sorrento played a part in this win. Whether they won a medal, made a final, or simply gave it their all in every race, their efforts contributed to our overall success. Every point mattered, and we couldn’t be prouder of our team,” Burke said.

Sorrento’s success is a testament to the dedication of not only its junior athletes but also the unwavering support of coaches, age managers, officials, and water safety volunteers.

“A huge thank you to our incredible team of volunteers who dedicate their time and energy to developing our Nippers. Their guidance and encouragement are invaluable in helping our athletes reach their potential,” Burke added.

The club also acknowledged the families and parents who worked tirelessly behind the scenes – setting up, packing down, and cheering from the sidelines – ensuring the Nippers program remains strong and successful.

“Our Nippers program has never been stronger, and this result speaks volumes about the passion and commitment of everyone involved.” Burke said.
