Tyas Family Office Breaks Ground on Landmark Total Tools Development in Ballina

CADRE 3 mins read

The transformation of 319 River Street, Ballina, New South Wales, is officially underway, with CADRE breaking ground this month on the highly anticipated Total Tools Ballina development. This marks another milestone for CADRE, solidifying its position as a key player in large-format retail development and investment along the eastern seaboard.

CADRE strategically acquired off-market, the last englobo land site in the heart of Ballina, recognising its prime location on a high-volume traffic corridor. This landmark project will redefine large-format retail in the Northern Rivers region, delivering a cutting-edge and functional retail space tailored to modern business needs.

With triple street frontage, the site offers unparalleled visibility and accessibility, positioning it as a key retail and trade destination in Ballina. CADRE, the visionary real estate development arm of the Tyas Family Office, has spearheaded this project with its commitment to design excellence, customer experience, and long-term sustainability.

Nicholas Tyas, CADRE's managing director, said, “This retail project is about shaping the future of Ballina’s commercial landscape. We’re committed to delivering a space that not only meets the demands of businesses but enhances the experience for customers. With Total Tools as the anchor tenant, this will become a key destination for trade professionals.”

Tycorp Construction, the construction arm of the Tyas Family Office, has been appointed to lead the build, ensuring the project is delivered to the highest standards. Tycorp has a strong track record of executing premium commercial developments with a focus on quality, efficiency, and innovation.

“Our partnership with Tycorp will see this development built to the highest standards because of their innovative design and construction capability, which will speed up delivery and ensure a smooth delivery and store opening,” Tyas said. “Their expertise in delivering high-quality commercial spaces aligns perfectly with our vision for Ballina.”

This development marks the third large-format retail investment to break ground on the east coast in the last 12 months, with the Tyas Family Office securing further acquisitions in Tasmania, New South Wales, and Queensland, reinforcing its long-term investment strategy in key growth markets.

“We’re always looking for more passive investments and large-format retail developments. The Total Tools project and our other projects are about pushing boundaries and setting new benchmarks in large-format retail,” Tyas said.

The Grafton Lifestyle Centre is set to commence construction by Q2 2025. This $70 million large-format retail centre has been pre-committed to A-grade national tenants, including Anaconda, Total Tools, RSEA, Petbarn, Repco, Anytime Fitness and Oz Education Childcare.

The Grafton Homemaker Centre project brings a modern edge to large-format retail, integrating sustainability and future-proofing measures. Energy-efficient building materials and cutting-edge technology will be incorporated to minimise environmental impact while ensuring the infrastructure can evolve alongside changing retail trends and customer expectations. It will be one of the first homemaker centers in Australia to achieve a 5 star Nabers rating. Proudly supported and funded by CBA.

“It’s an exciting time for Ballina and Grafton. We’re proud to be playing a role in shaping its future,” Tyas said. “Our goal as a developer is to always strengthen the business community. As Ballina, Grafton and the Northern Rivers region continue to experience rapid growth and urban renewal, these projects are positioned to become a flagship destination for trade professionals and businesses.”
