UPDATED: From Edible Garden Trails, Farm Gates and Eat Local Month, to Clydesdales, a Scarecrow Festival, The Long Sunset, Mountain Biking, Trail Running and music and art festivals–here’s the major events in the Scenic Rim

NEXT WEEKEND - Scenic Rim Farm Gate Trails | Sunday March 30 and Sunday July 20

The famed Scenic Rim Farm Gate Trails see farmers, growers, producers, winemakers, brewers, distillers and flavour-makers across the region open their gates for a day celebrating where food comes from. Visitors leave with full stomachs and a love for the Scenic Rim region, its produce and its people. At just over an hour from both Brisbane and the Gold Coast - it’s the perfect day trip, or weekend away! The Tamborine Mountain Art Trail | Saturday 3 May – Monday 5 May

It’s a weekend Art Escape atop glorious Tamborine Mountain – starring over 75 artists and featuring an outdoor sculpture exhibition, a curated art exhibition of local artist work at the Art Post in Main st, hubs at the Grand Chameleon for off-mountain artists from Boonah Beaudesert and Canungra, hubs at The Escarpment, Creative Arts and Tamborine Glades for local artists not opening their studios,  and over 25 individual open studios across the mountain.  Tamborine Mountain Little Theatre will be involved with street theatre and there will be music performances in the evenings at St Bernards Hotel. https://www.tamborinemountain.art/

 

Scenic Rim Eat Local Month | Friday 30 May - Sunday 29 June 2025

Australia’s most authentic food and farming event is a month-long celebration of paddock to plate experiences across June 2025. Foodies and farm fans can expect an incredible line-up of on-farm celebrations, long lunches showcasing local produce, flavour-filled farm gate experiences, food tastings, tours and talks, masterclasses, workshops for all ages, with the signature event, the Winter Harvest Festival on Saturday June 28, 2025 a must-attend! Fermented Food Festival | Saturday 7 June 2025

Scenic Rim Farming Expo | Friday 13 – Saturday 14 June

For backyard to big acre farmers, this two-day event at Harrisville, proudly hosted by The Rotary and Lions Services Clubs of Harrisville, covers everything, and celebrates the region's farming and rural industries and the natural beauty that surrounds them. Friday is focused on connecting farmers to each other and industry experts with more than 100 exhibitors displaying on-site, while Saturday features added demonstrations, workshops and offerings, perfect for lifestyle and hobby farmers.  scenicrimfarmingexpo.com.au

 

Scenic Rim Clydesdale Spectacular | 14 & 15 June 2025

All Clydesdales great and small are celebrated at this hugely popular event; the richest Clydesdale Show in the Southern Hemisphere, t be held in Beaudesert for the first time this year. The weekend also showcases rare trades including  harness making, blacksmithing, wheelwrights, horse-drawn demonstrations & driving displays, whip plaiting, Whip Cracking Championships, Billy Boiling Championships, wood chopping, working dog displays, Friesian Horse Troupe performances, artisan coopering and more. Tamborine Mountain Edible Garden Trail | POSTPONED to Sunday 22 June - 10am - 4pm

A celebration of sustainable living and the art of growing your own food, visitors and participants are invited to explore a curated range of stunning private gardens showcasing thriving veggie patches, food forests, and innovative growing techniques, meeting passionate gardeners, learning practical tips, and being inspired. From wicking beds to permaculture principles, this trail highlights creative solutions for sustainable gardening in any space. Trail Running and Mountain Biking Events in the Scenic Rim | March to September

On The Edge Events has officially launched registrations for their series of trail running and mountain biking events in the stunning Scenic Rim. These events are designed to cater to all fitness levels – from beginners ready to tackle their first trail or ride, to seasoned athletes seeking a fresh challenge off the beaten track. The Southern Cross Soloists (SXS) Chamber Music Festival in association with Shambala Estate | Friday 22 August to Sunday 24 August

Kalbar Country Day | Saturday 18 October

It’s the big country weekend with the famous Hay Bale Trail featuring incredible sculptures. Locals spend weeks creating their hay bale artworks, look out for Mick-hay and Min-hay Mouse, Slink-hay, the Kalbar J-hay-l (a jail of hay bales) – hay puns galore! And there’s the carrot throwing competitions! Fun fact – did you know the Scenic Rim is the carrot growing capital of Australia, with over 600 million carrots grown annually here.

 

Tamborine Mountain Scarecrow Festival | October

It’s Halloween Tamborine Mountain style!! This famous celebration over three days sees hundreds of scarecrows of all shapes and sizes pop up all over Tamborine Mountain. Make a weekend of it and discover the magic of the mountain – all information here

 

The Long Sunset | November

Australia's most picturesque music festival returns to the staggeringly beautiful Scenic Rim region in November as part of the Scenic Rim Music Trail. Set amidst the rolling hills at Canungra’s breathtaking Elysian Fields, The Long Sunset will feature a dreamworthy lineup of artists, carefully curated to create the perfect soundtrack for this stunning destination. La Trobe University

La Trobe to assess impact of virtual nursing in aged care

La Trobe University will lead an evaluation of the Australian Government’s new Virtual Nursing (VN) in Aged Care project. The national initiative uses telehealth solutions to provide 24-hour registered nursing coverage to 30 residential aged care homes across the country. The $1.66 million evaluation, funded by the government, will measure the impact of virtual care on clinical outcomes, workforce and service sustainability.
