Vintage – the Arbiter of Style: The Vintage Clothing & Collectables Sale Returns for Its 15th Anniversary

National Trust in Victoria 3 mins read

Melbourne’s most stylish second-hand fashion event is back - and it’s bigger, bolder, and more fabulous than ever. Celebrating 15 years of vintage treasures, the National Trust of Australia (Victoria)’s Vintage Clothing Sale returns to Abbotsford Convent on Saturday 22 and Sunday 23 March 2025, offering an expertly curated selection of high-end designer pieces, collectables, and timeless fashion finds. From couture to quirky, every item has been carefully handpicked by a dedicated team of volunteers, ensuring a premium shopping experience like no other in the city.

At a time when sustainable fashion is more than just a trend, this sale proves that pre-loved doesn’t mean second best. Whether you’re hunting for vintage classics, designer gems, or unique statement pieces, this is slow fashion at its finest - without the premium price tag. Every purchase supports the National Trust’s ongoing conservation work, so you can shop guilt-free, knowing you’re championing both style and sustainability.

Marking this milestone anniversary, this year’s sale is set to attract even more vintage lovers, collectors, and eco-conscious shoppers. With a reputation built over 15 years, the National Trust guarantees quality - these aren’t your average second-hand donations. Shoppers can expect an impressive range, including designer fashion, shoes, handbags, accessories, jewellery, menswear, children’s clothing, fabrics, and rare household collectables. It’s a celebration of craftsmanship, sustainability, and Melbourne’s love affair with fashion history.

Collette Brennan, CEO of the National Trust of Australia (Victoria):

"This sale is the antithesis of fast fashion - where style meets sustainability. We’re proud to offer Melbourne an event that honours craftsmanship, creativity, and the stories woven into every piece of clothing."

"Fifteen years of the Vintage Clothing Sale is a testament to the passion of our volunteers and the appetite for high-quality vintage fashion. It’s not just a sale; it’s a movement towards thoughtful and conscious style."

A Suit’s Journey: From Melbourne to Germany and Back Again – Donated by Dirk the Crook!

The Vintage Clothing Sale is thrilled to announce a special donation from @dirkthecrook – Melbourne’s own Dirk Willem Fourie, a renowned digital content creator and suit stylist known for his dedication to “The Golden Age of Menswear.”

Dirk, who describes himself as an “antique streetwear stylist,” has built a following of over 200,000 vintage fashion enthusiasts by curating and styling classic menswear from the 1940s. His latest contribution to the Vintage Clothing Sale is a truly remarkable piece – a 1940s Melbourne-made suit that has taken an unexpected journey across the world.

This rare suit was originally crafted in a tailor shop on Elizabeth Street, Melbourne. Over the decades, it found its way to Germany, where Dirk eventually tracked it down and purchased it with one goal in mind: to bring it back home. Now, in an incredible act of generosity, he is donating it to the Vintage Clothing Sale, where it will be available for purchase.

Dirk hopes this donation will highlight the rarity and craftsmanship of Melbourne-made suits, many of which are now incredibly hard to find.

Dirk is available for interview

While the suit is too small for him to wear, he has suggested a special photoshoot at the original shop location and even floated the idea of auctioning it at the sale.
