Breaking political boundaries: the world’s first candidate for humanity enters the race

An Australian scientist is running for Parliament - not for a state, but for the planet

SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA - As part of his bold campaign for the Australian Senate, Independent candidate Dr Shawn Price is calling for the creation of a world-first 77th Senate seat - dedicated to the long-term interests of the entire human race, the planet, and the global commons. Supporters have dubbed him “the world’s first candidate for humanity.”

While most federal senate candidates run to represent their State, Dr Price, an Australian chartered chemical engineer and scientist with a PhD in biotechnology, is running to represent something far bigger: the future of humanity.

“Global problems like climate collapse, AI risks, pandemics, and inequality don’t respect borders,” says Dr Price. “Yet our politics is stuck in short-term, domestic cycles. We need leadership that’s willing to think locally but act globally, and boldly, whilst representing those who aren’t yet in the room - the future generations.”

“What if Parliament had one seat that always asked: is this good for the future of the entire human race?”
That’s the vision behind A Seat for Humanity - a proposed 77th seat in the Australian Senate dedicated to representing the long-term interests of future generations, global cooperation, and the shared challenges facing the human race. While traditional Senate seats represent states, this seat would represent the global commons: and focus on issues like climate collapse, runaway AI, pandemic prevention, and humanity’s survival as a species.

With a research background in biotechnology and sustainable tech, Dr Price is building his campaign on six core pledges:

  1. Affordable housing and cost-of-living reform

  2. Bold climate action and a just transition

  3. Ethical AI and cybersecurity regulation

  4. Global pandemic preparedness and health equity

  5. A Senate seat that gives voice to long-term global security and cooperation

  6. A nation building strategy positioning Australia as a superpower for good

Dr Price’s campaign may be grassroots, but its message is bold. With explainers posted to TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, and Facebook, he’s begun engaging Australians in a national conversation about long-term thinking in politics. Through social media, he’s also begun consultations with academics, policy experts, community groups, and everyday Australians to shape what a truly future-focused Senate seat should look like.

“This election isn’t just about left vs right,” says Price. “It’s about short-term politics versus long-term survival. And Australia has a rare chance to lead the world — by creating a Senate seat that represents not just our state, but our species.”

Domestic challenges need global solutions: the cost of so many of our goods is affected by wars - including trade wars thousands of miles away. Electricity costs are affected by climate change and global grid innovation. Whilst privacy rights and financial security is consistently at risk to overseas bad actors and the rising sophistication of AI in the wrong hands.

Dr Shawn Price's senate campaign is built on six bold pledges - from affordable housing and climate action to AI, pandemic preparedness and a 'seat for humanity' in Parliament. With a vision to transform Australia into a global leader.

Make Big Polluters Pay

Treasurer must levy big coal and gas corporations to fund climate disasters Make Big Polluters Pay

Climate disasters are projected to cost the federal budget $6.3 billion in the upcoming mid-year economic forecast this week. The Treasurer should follow public opinion and ensure coal and gas corporations responsible for most climate pollution pay for these costs, rather than forcing ordinary taxpayers to shoulder the burden, according to the Make Big Polluters Pay alliance. Climate disasters already cost the economy $38 billion each year, with households, communities, local governments and small businesses paying to recover from extreme weather. These impacts are also driving up insurance premiums, food prices and household bills. Deloitte projects disaster costs will exceed…
