Bringing the joy of cricket to young people from migrant communities

Settlement Services International < 1 mins read

Settlement Services International (SSI) and the Usman Khawaja Foundation (UKF) are delighted to announce a new partnership that aims to empower children and young people from migrant backgrounds through sport.

Cricket has long been an iconic Australian sport and an integral part of our culture. Through the expertise of Australian cricketer Usman Khawaja and his foundation UKF, we hope to increase the sense of belonging and connection to Australian culture for young people from migrant backgrounds.

This new partnership, being launched on 22 April 2025 in Queensland, will see us deliver joint cricket clinics across Queensland, NSW and Victoria, engage government delegates to attend activities and events, and work towards hosting UKF SSI Multicultural Cups targeted at young people from English Language Schools.

Media are invited to join SSI, Usman Khawaja, the Usman Khawaja Foundation, and secondary school students for its first cricket clinic at Woodridge North State School in Queensland. Available for interview will be:

  • Australian and Queensland cricketer Usman Khawaja

  • SSI CEO Violet Roumeliotis

  • Woodridge North State School Principal Michael McMahon

Event details:

  • Date: Tuesday 22 April 2025

  • Time: 11.00am – 12.30pm

  • Location: Woodridge North State School, 3/11 Arthur St, Woodridge QLD 4114
