Get active and beat dementia in Melbourne!

Dementia Australia 2 mins read

The 2025 Melbourne Memory Walk & Jog is nearly here with the event taking place on Sunday 18 May at Princes Park, Carlton North.

Dementia Australia’s largest annual fundraising event returns to Melbourne in the hopes of attracting our biggest crowd yet, with participants helping to raise funds in support of people living with dementia, their families and carers.

Join MC’s Woody Whitelaw and Takaya Honda for a wonderful fun, family friendly day out. Each event is a fantastic opportunity for people impacted by dementia and their supporters to come together to walk or run, raise much-needed funds and to connect.

More than 1,080 people live with dementia in the City of Melbourne council area. Dementia is the second leading cause of death of Australians and the leading cause of death of Australian women.

As the number of Australians impacted by dementia continues to grow, it is more important than ever that we raise funds and encourage everyone to get active for their brain health.

Get active and beat dementia, sign-up to participate in Memory Walk & Jog or volunteer at https://www.memorywalk.com.au/event/melbourne/home.

Can’t attend Memory Walk & Jog but want to be involved? Organise your own group or individual walk or jog, with a MyWay event. Choose your own date and location and register at www.memorywalk.com.au/get-involved/mw.

National genomic screening program would save thousands of Australians from preventable cancer and heart disease

Leadinggenomic health experts from Monash University are calling for urgent government funding to progress the development of a national preventive genomic testing program that would save thousands of Australians from conditions like cancer and heart disease. This call to action follows a Monash-led nationwide pilot study recently completed, offering free genomic screening to 10,000 Australians aged 18 to 40. The pilot tested for 10 medically actionable genes linked to hereditary breast and ovarian cancer, Lynch syndrome, and familial hypercholesterolaemia. The findings are published today in the inaugural edition of the new academic journal Nature Health. The pilot study was led…
