International Model Georgina Burke Saddles Up for Tour d’Horse 2025

The KIDS Foundation 4 mins read

Top international model, body diversity advocate and lifelong equestrian, Georgina Burke is proud to support the KIDS Foundation as its Global Ambassador for Tour d’Horse 2025, the major fundraising event for the charity.

The New York-based model grew up on the outskirts of Brisbane, where horses were part of her family's everyday life.  Georgina even worked at a saddlery store to fund the plane ticket for her first international modelling trip to London when she was 19.

Since that first trip, Georgina's career has seen her front the campaigns of a myriad of global brands, including Ralph Lauren and Seafolly. And while she has now been based in New York for over 15 years, Australia will always be home.

A passionate body positivity champion, and equestrian in her downtime, Georgina said she is excited to combine her long-held love of horses and voice to get behind the work of the KIDS Foundation and support the fundraising efforts of Tour d'Horse.

"When I heard about the life-changing programs the KIDS Foundation do to help young people and their families heal and thrive following the impact of significant trauma, I knew I wanted to help. Combine that with my passion for horses, I booked my flights home immediately. I cannot wait to get back to Australia to be part of this year's Tour d’Horse,” Georgina said.

"Tour d'Horse is going to be an extraordinary endurance ride on horseback, but I am under no illusion that this will be easy. From all accounts it will be a tough six days in the saddle, navigating the rugged terrain of the Hunter Valley but the challenge, and no doubt the discomfort, will be nothing compared to what the people we are riding for have been through. I will be riding for them not only to raise funds but to also honour the courage of the young survivors and celebrate the inspirational work by the KIDS Foundation.”

Led by Founder and CEO Dr Susie O’Neill OAM, the KIDS Foundation has been transforming lives for over 30 years, delivering trauma and injury prevention, rehabilitation, and resilience-building initiatives.

“Tour d’Horse is a powerful reminder that healing comes in many forms. By combining equine therapy with fundraising, we’re not only supporting those impacted by trauma but also creating a lasting impact through our programs and initiatives, “Dr O'Neill said.

"We are so honoured and excited to have Georgina represent the KIDS Foundation as our Global Ambassador and join us on the ride for 2025."

Adding to the excitement, Australian singer-songwriter Alex Lloyd will lend his support to the cause, helping raise awareness and inspire both riders and supporters along the way.

Mr Lloyd expressed his understanding and support for Tour d'Horse and the importance of the work by the KIDS Foundation.

“I’ve faced several challenges from unresolved childhood trauma. This is why I’m proud to support the KIDS Foundation,” Alex said.

"The KIDS Foundation's work in raising awareness and funds is essential for societal improvement.  Trauma often remains hidden, causing significant issues later in life if it is not addressed.  Early intervention is crucial for healing and makes it better for everyone.

"I am proud to play my part at this year's Tour d'Horse, and look forward to performing each night after the riders return from their full day in the saddle.”

Established in 1993, the KIDS Foundation supports traumatised and injured individuals left differently abled due to burns, accidents, violent crimes, abuse, and disease. Its recovery and education programs reach children and their families Australia-wide.

The KIDS Foundation’s programs include camps, workshops, community activities, education, career opportunities, and the promotion of mental health and wellbeing.

In its inaugural year, Tour d’Horse raised $520,000, positively impacting 200,000 children and families across Australia. This year, the goal is even bigger - $1 million, extending the KIDS Foundation’s programs to 300,000 children, young adults, and families.

This unique event brings together passionate riders and dedicated teams, all committed to supporting children and families affected by trauma.

Helping young adults rethink uncertainty reduces anxiety and depression: study

Finding uncertainty hard to tolerate is linked to poorer mental health among young adults, and a short course addressing this has shown promising results. A single 20 to 30-minute online course can help young adults become more tolerant of uncertainty and less anxious and depressed, a study led by UNSW Sydney psychologists has found. And the improved mental health effects were still evident at least a month after completing the course. The study, which was published today in the journal Psychological Medicine, comes at a time when young adults face persistent uncertainty – from the pandemic to global instability to…
