Permanent Forum on People of African Descent to hold its 4th Session (14 – 17 April)

IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Liverpool resident, Tamirirashe (Tamisha) Matara has been invited to attend the 4th Session of the United Nations Permanent Forum on People of African Descent taking place in New York, 14 - 17 April.

The Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) had been working to create a permanent Forum on People of African Descent since November 2014, when it was mandated to do so through the UN General Assembly resolution A/RES/69/16 entitled, “Programme of activities for the implementation of the International Decade for People of African Descent”.

Australian born Zimbabwean, Tamisha is a passionate youth advocate, youth content creator, and university student dedicated to empowering multicultural communities.

She is passionate about amplifying young voices through storytelling and leadership. Whether advocating for change, reporting on important issues, or connecting with diverse communities, Tamisha is committed to making meaningful impact.

Over the past year, she has been fortunate enough to express her passion working with organisations such as, UNICEF Australia, MYAN NSW, and Youth Action Liverpool City Council.

This is Tamisha’s first opportunity to represent young African Australians and contribute to discussions shaping their future at the international level.

“I’ve been invited to attend the Permanent Forum on People of African Descent at the United Nations in New York, where global leaders, advocates, and policy makers will discuss ways to advance the rights of African communities worldwide,” Tamisha said.

“This is an incredible opportunity for me to represent young African Australians, share our stories, and contribute to discussions shaping our future.”

The Permanent Forum coincides with 2025 Youth Week in NSW (9 – 17 April) which celebrates every young person’s unique strengths, and recognises their individual and collective power as our current and future influencers, leaders and decision makers.
