Kids of all ages and their carers can join in the fun at the Australian Museum (AM) in the autumn school holidays – from 14 to 29 April, 2025 – with free entry, STEM-inspired workshops, plus the unmissable Machu Picchu and the Golden Empires of Peru, and so much more …
The Australian Museum is jam-packed with exploration, time travel and discovery thanks to free entry to kid-thrilling galleries, such as the Wild Planet and Dinosaurs, alongside the evocative and fascinating Pasifika Gallery, Wansolmoana. The much-loved science-meets-storytelling Burra play space, will also be open seven-days-a-week and during the holidays.
Kim McKay AO, Director and CEO of the Australian Museum, said the AM invites everyone to enjoy all the Australian Museum has to offer during the school break.
“When it comes to school holidays, the AM pulls out all the stops with workshops, arts and crafts and STEM-centric activities. And don’t forget to grab your ticket to the remarkable Machu Picchu and the Golden Empires of Peru, which contains the most opulent collection of Andean gold to ever tour the world, plus an award-winning VR experience – it’s been an absolute hit with visitors, young and old!” Ms McKay said.
School holiday highlights include the STEM Together workshop, which pairs kids with their adult teammate to complete a series of science and technology challenges together; Scientist for a Day program, which includes a behind-the-scenes glimpse into the winged workings of the AM’s Ornithology Technical Officer, Emily Cave, and spectacular bird specimens; plus free play spaces and galleries all day, every day.
Free galleries to explore include the Garrigarrang, First Nations Gallery, featuring stories of how First Nations peoples have cared for Sea Country and how you can join the fight for our ocean health; discover the 100 treasured objects and 100 remarkable people who shaped the nation through history, science, nature in the stunning Westpac Long Gallery.
The soothing sounds of nature can accompany visitors home via the Nocturnal Words podcast, which weaves together a symphony of nature sounds and captivating storytelling through an audio exploration of Australia’s nocturnal ecosystems.
