Step up for sick kids with Starlight

Starlight Children's Foundation 3 mins read

Starlight Children’s Foundation’s (Starlight) Super Steps challenge has returned for its second year, encouraging Australians to step up this May and make hospital a happier place for sick kids and their families.

From 1 May to 31 May, participants can choose to walk or run 10,000 steps each day and help raise $1 million to deliver happiness to over 25,000 sick kids through Starlight’s vital hospital services.

Regardless of age and fitness level, Australians are invited to join the Super Steps challenge and can reach their goals in any environment they choose – be it a beach run, a bush walk, a stroll around their neighbourhood or on a treadmill. Participants can join individually or take on the challenge with friends, family or colleagues as a team.

Funds raised through the Super Steps challenge will support Starlight’s hospital services including  Captain Starlight and Starlight Express Rooms which are accessible to all sick kids and their families in children’s hospitals nationally.

Starlight CEO Louise Baxter said: “In 2025, we’re hoping to help even more seriously ill children and their families by increasing our Super Steps fundraising goal. If we reach $1 million, Starlight will be able to bring happiness to over 25,000 seriously ill children and their families through our essential hospital programs.”

“Sign up to the challenge today, and by the end of the May you will not only get fit and lift your own spirits, but you will be helping to build the wellbeing and resilience of seriously ill children in the process. It’s win-win.”

Super Steps participants will be supported every step of the way with fundraising and training motivation and Starlight kids Mackie, Thea and Henry will be cheering them on throughout the challenge.

Fundraisers will also be rewarded for their efforts with Super Steps merchandise as they reach key milestones. They can go on to earn t-shirts, medals, shoelaces, a picnic blanket and even entry into the VIP Star Steppers Club as they hit their fundraising milestones.

Registrations are now open and it’s free to sign up. Simply set up a profile, choose your step and fundraising goals and get moving – the higher the goal, the bigger the impact.

This year, the Super Steps challenge is proudly sponsored by Australia’s leading cashback platform and long-term Starlight partner
Cashrewards.

Cashrewards CEO Anthony Seymour-Walsh said: “At Cashrewards, giving back is part of who we are and we’re incredibly proud to expand our long-standing partnership with Starlight Children’s Foundation by sponsoring Super Steps this May.”

“We believe in the power of small steps to make a big difference and Super Steps is the perfect example of that. Every step and ever dollar counts, whether its savings or fundraising. It all adds up, and with Super Steps, everyone has the chance to make a meaningful impact."
