Flood update – NSW schools

NSW Department of Education < 1 mins read

145 schools remain closed across the Mid North Coast, Hunter and Central Coast.

If you have been told that your school is closed, please keep your children at home. The safety and wellbeing of our students and staff is our highest priority.

Importantly, if a school is closed, it will not be offering minimal supervision to students.

These communities are experiencing flooding, heavy rain and high winds, and more schools could become non-operational in these areas.

Schools will communicate this with parents and carers. They continue to be the first point of contact throughout this difficult time.

Learning from home resources will be made available for all students who cannot attend school.

The department will keep families updated via their schools and reopen schools as soon as it is deemed safe to do so – following advice from the NSW State Emergency Service.

We believe all school closures are due to road access and travel safety concerns, not structural damage to schools.

At this time, we are aware of 130 early childhood education and care services closed due to the flooding, as well as nine TAFE NSW campuses.

Download the Hazards Near Me App to stay across the latest warnings and information.

Call the NSW SES on 132 500 if you need emergency assistance in floods and storms. In a life-threatening emergency, call Triple Zero (000) or visit www.ses.nsw.gov.au

Visit our website for information on schools that are closed.
