*** MEDIA ALERT – Thursday 29 May *** GPs visit northern Tasmanian practices and clinical schools to discuss the future of rural general practice care

On Thursday 29 May, Royal Australian College of GPs (RACGP) Tasmania Chair, Dr Toby Gardner, the College’s Rural Chair, Associate Professor Michael Clements, and Tasmanian Rural Programs Manager, Judah Morris, will be visiting RACGP-award winner the Beaconsfield Family Practice to talk to GPs, practice team members and patients, as well as the Launceston Clinical School to meet with medical students.

Associate Professor Clements and Mr. Morris will also visit the Patrick Street Clinic in Ulverston, the Umina Park Nursing Home in Shorewell Park, and the Burnie Rural Clinical School later in the afternoon. The visits come ahead of the RACGP-sponsored Tasmanian Rural Health Conference 2025, where GPs from across the state will share insights and learn more about how to boost healthcare outside of Tasmania’s major cities.

WHEN AND WHERE: Thursday 29 May.

  • 9 30am – 10 30am – Beaconsfield Family Medical Practice (146 Weld St, Beaconsfield).
  • 11 15am – 12 30pm – Launceston Clinical School (Launceston General Hospital, Northern Integrated Care Service building, 41 Frankland St, Launceston).
  • 2 50pm – 3 45pm – Burnie Clinical School Cradle Coast Campus (2/8 Bass Highway, Burnie).
  • 3 50pm – 4 30pm – Umina Park Aged Care (22 Mooreville Rd, Shorewell Park).
  • 4 30pm – 5 30pm – Rural Clinical School (21 Brickport Rd, Cooee).

WHO WILL Be THERE: RACGP Tasmania Chair, Dr Toby Gardner, Rural Chair, Associate Professor Michael Clements, and Tasmanian Rural Programs Manager, Judah Morris.

WHAT WILL HAPPEN: RACGP spokespeople available for interviews (including filming), and photos. Alternatively, phone or video (e.g., Zoom) interviews can be arranged on request.
