NALSPA welcomes Larissa Waters as Australian Greens leader

National Automotive Leasing and Salary Packaging Association < 1 mins read

The National Automotive Leasing and Salary Packaging Association (NALSPA) has welcomed the appointment of Senator Larissa Waters as the new Leader of the Australian Greens, highlighting her longstanding commitment to environmental progress, women’s health, and workplace rights, and tackling the rising cost-of-living for Australian families.

NALSPA CEO Rohan Martin congratulated Senator Waters on her appointment, noting her decades-long advocacy for climate action and the environment.

“Senator Waters’s leadership comes at an important time for the Australian population and the Australian Parliament. Climate and our pathway to net zero, affordable healthcare and housing, the economy, and the rising cost-of-living are all pivotal matters,” Mr Martin said.

“NALSPA welcomes the opportunity to work in collaboration with the Australian Greens to ensure the taxation and transfer system – together with the services our members provide – continue to facilitate targeted, effective cost-of-living relief for Australian workers and their families.

“We also look forward to working with Senator Waters in relation to policies which support the orderly and continued electrification of Australia’s transport fleet. Our members currently play a significant role in helping working families, particularly those in the outer suburbs and regional areas, adopt zero emission vehicles with the support of the Fringe Benefits Tax (FBT) exemption on EVs.

“We wish Senator Waters and her new leadership team all the very best.

“Importantly we also thank and congratulate outgoing leader Adam Bandt for his 15 years of service to public life and his pursuit of the values of the Australian Greens."

Spirometry in decline: a vital test for COPD left behind

25 June 2025 Australians living with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) are being exposed to greater health risks as the use of a critical diagnostic test has fallen dramatically, according to a new national report released today by the Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care. The Atlas Focus Report: COPD found a 31% drop in spirometry testing rates between 2015-16 and 2022-23, despite the test being the gold standard for confirming a diagnosis of COPD. Without spirometry, patients are in danger of misdiagnosis and being prescribed medications that put them at unnecessary risk. COPD is a progressive,…

ACOSS/UNSW Sydney-led Poverty and Inequality Partnership

Seven in ten renters worried about asking for repairs

Almost seven in ten people who rent privately worry about asking for repairs in case they face a rent increase, according to research by the ACOSS/UNSW Sydney-led Poverty and Inequality Partnership, National Shelter and the National Association of Renter Organisations (NARO). The study, which surveyed 1,019 people who rent in the private sector across Australia, also found a third of renters would be unable to afford their rent if it went up by 5 per cent. The report, titled Rights at risk: Rising rents and repercussions, found half of renters (50%) live in homes that need repairs and one in…
