National Leaders Unite Ahead of SA Royal Commission to Prevent Violence Against Women Before It Starts

Our Watch < 1 mins read

Australia’s national violence prevention organisation, Our Watch, will join Minister for Women and the Prevention of Domestic, Family and Sexual Violence Hon Katrine Hildyard MP in Adelaide on Thursday 29 May to co-host a landmark roundtable aimed at strengthening South Australia’s primary prevention response.

Ahead of the release of the South Australian Royal Commission into Domestic, Family and Sexual Violence final report in July, the roundtable will bring together senior leaders across government, community, health, business, education and justice to focus on the systemic and cultural changes needed to stop violence before it starts.

Our Watch CEO Patty Kinnersly said the moment is critical.

“We are at a turning point. The Royal Commission will chart the path forward, and this roundtable is about making sure we are ready to walk that path together,” Ms Kinnersly said.

“South Australia has the opportunity to lead the country in prevention, but it will require long-term investment, cross-sector collaboration and clear commitment to embedding prevention across all parts of community life.”

The event will explore current prevention work underway in South Australia, gaps and opportunities for growth, and the role of key settings—from schools and workplaces to media and sport—in shifting attitudes and behaviors.

It builds on Our Watch’s submission to the Royal Commission and longstanding calls for a standalone South Australian prevention strategy, whole-of-school respectful relationships education, and dedicated investment in prevention infrastructure and workforce.
