While executives from Australia's big gas and oil companies rub shoulders in Brisbane, health, economic and conservation experts will tell Australians the real truth about these big polluters and the free ride they're given in Australia.

Associate Professor Linda Selvey will outline the frightening long-term health dangers of climate change, caused by burning vast quantities of fossil fuels.

"We are already experiencing the impacts of climate change on our health. These include hospitalisations and deaths from the impacts of more frequent, severe and prolonged heatwaves and extreme weather events."

Chief Economist at The Australia Institute Greg Jericho will reveal the shameful free ride our governments give to big gas and oil companies, which make a fortune selling Australia's resources and pay next to nothing in tax.

"Gas companies are cashing in while Australian communities are picking up the cost. These companies cause climate change-related disasters like floods and fires, but where were they when half of NSW was underwater the other day?"

And Director of the Queensland Conservation Council Dave Copeman will outline the incredible cost of climate change to the well-being of Queenslanders.

"This is an outrageous gathering of climate-wrecking companies trading tips on how to further pollute our planet and avoid taxes."

A Hunter Valley community group says it looks forward to defending its historic climate victory after the High Court agreed to hear MACH Energy’s challenge against an earlier Appeals Court ruling that squashed the Planning Department’s approval of the Mt Pleasant coal mine expansion.
